Will they know?

If Timex is going to produce watches for Italian design houses under those Italian labels, how will the average consumer know that Timex is the real manufacturer?  It seems obvious the label, "Salvatore Ferragamo by Timex"will not appear any time soon.  The problem with most private labeling is exactly that its private and therefore does not enhance, or detract from, the image of the actual manufacturer.  The Polo collaboration with JC Penney will be more public, but who knows that Coach at one time made belts for Sears?  At this stage, it behooves the Italians NOT to call attention to the alliance. If Timex is to substantially change its image, it needs to market a luxury watch line under its own name.  This will take a large commitment of both time and resources, but it can be done.  Just as California wine makers succeeded in challenging the then dominance of France, Timex could prove itself as a competitive threat to the Swiss.

A Good Move But Still to Clear More

1. Timex Group basic customers are of middle class familly. 2. Timex leads in that part of class in cheap and medium range. 3. By Colabrating with few Italian Brands its just to show hands in High End Watch Industry. 4. Other Brands in Luxury Watches are known for their Excellence in High End Watches and its diffcult to steal that market share from them. 5. Compition with elite manufactres will be a tough task for Timex.
