Price Sells Commodities-Style and Engineering Sells Cars

Price is an important element in the consumer’s decision to buy a car. But many consumers buy for a combination reasons including style, quality, engineering, safety, status, utility,and price. While foreign car manufacturers have built clear brand images, US auto manufacturers have confused consumers by relying on price to market their cars. US car makers and investors alike should remember that America’s love affair with the automobile is remarkably resilient and the consumer will choose any brand and pay premium prices for the image, status, and utility of the 'right' automobile.
Asian Automakers March Sales Rise

Amid negative sales results at General Motors and Ford, DaimlerChrysler sales rose slightly in March. However the real interesting statistic is the sales results of Hyundai and Toyota which were up 3% and 6.9% respectively.

Once again General Motors has taken a direct hit as the sales numbers for March are reported. While US auto sales declined 2.9%, GM posted a 14% decline while Ford and DaimlerChrysler reported a 4.7% loss and a 2.9% increase respectively. The Asian Auto makers continue to set the pace with only the Nissan Motor Co reporting a decline of 1.1%.
