1. This new Wal-Mart merchandizing paradigm is quite a departure from Sam’s simple vision.
2. The new merchandizing scheme will likely add hundreds of thousands of new skus, decrease the number of substitute brands available to offset stock outs, and increase markdowns.
3. The real problem with this scheme is the company’s plan to change its management organization.
4. CEO Castro-Wright’s new organizational plans, highlighted by his decision to eliminate Wal-Mart’s Christmas Layaway program as of November 17th illustrate just how vulnerable the company’s values are today, when confronted by stagnant US sales growth.
