Agenda:

Cloud computing, and the storage and infrastructure required to support it, has been one of the fastest growing areas in tech this year. IDC estimates that enterprise spending on cloud computing services will increase 27 percent a year to total at $56 billion by 2014. As traditional enterprise providers seek to build out their non-PC offerings, they are looking to next generation storage providers to provide the technology and infrastructure to support this strategy. Dell made an initial move offering a hefty premium to acquire the high-end storage provider 3PAR. As soon as news of the proposed acquisition broke, Hewlett-Packard shot back with its own offer that was 33 percent higher than Dell’s. How far will this bidding war escalate, and what are the implications for other players in cloud computing? To discuss these key issues, Gerson Lehrman Group will host a Teleconference with Simon Robinson, Research Director of Storage, and Brenon Daly, Financial Analyst at The 451 Group Tuesday, August 24th. TOPICS
  • With the high premiums being offered by both Dell and H-P for 3PAR, how will this impact other companies in the data-storage space?
  • What are the broader implications of a 3Par deal for enterprise IT?
  • How crucial is 3PAR’s technology to Dell’s enterprise technology strategy?
  • What might be the ramifications for Dell if they are outbid?
