SK Telecom (SKT) is planning to sell all of its 15.3% shares of Virgin Mobiles USA for the pure investment purposes with Sprint acquiring Virgin Mobile USA. The 15.3% of shares are converted into a dismal 0.53% shares after Sprint's acquisition and this kills the South Korean global operator's strategic importance to Sprint. SK Telecom's future attempts to acquire any significant operator will definitely be on a hold for very long time with painful lessons learned from Helio MVNO.

Understanding MVNO is important as a new business and service model in wireless industry for specific segments of population who desire something savvy and different from typical carrier service bundling and companies with existing brand names have been tried and including T-Mobile has looked into it. But only Virgin Mobile has been successful in the U.S. to date. We all know what happened to ESPN Mobile.
