This article is just the first warning of an overall problem int he video game industry. The economic slowdown has made it more difficult for video game publishers to finance development of new titles. Many publishers are cutting back on the number of titles they are publishing, which will mean fewer games being released this fall and well into 2010. Fewer game titles will mean less choice for consumers.

While this article is correct in its coverage of AT&T and the iPhone it only covers the surface and doesn't go into detail regarding how much the iPhone is changing the landscape. The real change that was only lightly suggested in the article is that the iPhone introduced the public to a new user experience. While it is true this new user experience is made possible by the iPhone hardware, what really is driving that experience now is the software.

The two Key facts that were not mentioned but are primary to Nintendo's success is that they have a plan and they pay attention to player experience rather than technology. These two factors combined with good technology are helping Nintendo penetrate more and more households in spite of a worldwide recession.
