AFTER A GOOD LANDING, VUELING’S TAKE OFF ON THE STOCK MARKET WAS STILL BETTER

December 7, 2006

Spain regulator approves Vueling IPO | today.reuters.com

The successful launching of the VUELING’s IPO on the Spanish stock market –the second airline, after Iberia Airlines, publicly trading its shares- deserved a favorable attention from foreign and domestic institutional investors.

The low cost carrier (LCC) success has closely been scrutinized by other Spanish LCCs which, during the coming year, may follow the same path, provided the stock market goes on enjoying favorable winds.

The prodding of Mr. Prodi as dealmaker in airlines marriages

November 30, 2006

Air France, Alitalia reveal venture talks, Prodi voices concern | news.yahoo.com

The market has taken a dim view on that move by pushing down a 7% the price of Air France KLM shares.

Politically pushed mergers of market operators cannot work out properly, as shown by the Endesa-Gas Natural fiasco: more so when the pressure is applied across national borders.

The political initiative adopted by the former President of the European Commission may devaluate -more than enhance- the prospects of Alitalia in finding a rescuer.

Note: The captioned title reflects an Spanish saying used to indicate that, sometimes, those living out of a profession or activity, foolishly neglet using or applying their specific know-how or mastery for their own benefit. (En casa del herrero, cuchillo de palo).

Implication: In the already overregulated galaxy of the Information Technology (IT), not only the corporate world but also the Mom & Pop corner shop and even IT Legal Gurus, must be extremely watchful of their own smallest moves and doings if they want to avoid painful penalties.

Delta hostile takeover by US Airways: Bullseye shot or coin tossing exercise?

November 27, 2006

US Air makes $8 billion bid for Delta | money.cnn.com

1. The $8.7 billion bait launched last week by the Tempe, AZ, based air carrier has landed on the rather icy shoulder of the targeted prey.

2. The cold reception shown by the bankrupt carrier’s Management to the unsolicited bid has turned the offer into a hostile uphill battle.

 3. The already daunting task of successfully merging two large operating airlines may, in such unfriendly scenario, evolve into a nightmare of endless delays, losses, damages, collateral fights and unexpected expenses, costs, fees and other “battling write-offs” which might injure, beyond repair, one or both contenders.

VUELING AIRLINES is set to land on the Spanish Stock Market early December

November 20, 2006

Spain regulator approves Vueling IPO | today.reuters.com

After the successful launching of commercially successful Low Cost Airlines (LCC), the dimension of the capital requirements demanded by their further growth and expansion will force them to switch from private capital sources to those only available through the stock market.

THE LOST WAR OF THE SPANISH SOCIALIST COVERNMENT AGAINST ENDESA

September 8, 2006

EU may challenge Spain on Endesa deal | www.iht.com

Implications.

 1. Some EU member States must still learn to behave as independent arbitrators and not as one-sided fighting players against their own taxpayers.

 2. Some EU member States still seem unaware of the existence of powerful regulatory watchdogs above them.

 3. Some day, somewhere, “the wine and roses days” of total irresponsibility when ignoring the rule of law, may end up in unpleasant surprises.
