With all of the hullabaloo being put forth by Big Pharma over the last several years, it is interesting to see the upcoming alliance between GSK and Dr Reddy. Today, the major pharmaceutical companies have manufacturing plants in over 30 countries around the world. U.S. customers still believe that when they go to their local drugstore (e.g., Walgreens, CVS), their prescriptions are being filled with medications that were made in the U.S. The trend to produce brand prescription meds outside of the U.S. has been increasing over the last 5 years and will continue to do so. The lurking expiration of major medicine patents in the next 3 years has the major players scrambling to either merge with generic manufacturers, create their own generic manufacturing subsidiary( e.g., Merck), and continue to produce updated versions of their biggest block busters. The U.S. customer is intelligent and deserving of the best price for a medication and have access to valid generics when available.

Potential enrollees have more options from providers this year that comes with more confusion. Valid and accurate long term plan provisions are lacking. The viable and cost effective option of prescription medications from Canada is often overlooked.
