Shifting the Focus - Shifting the Blame

Defense: Govt knew of asbestos danger, did nothing | seattletimes.nwsource.com

This article shows WR Grace and its executives knew that the spreading of fire-proofing materials that contained asbestos were hazardous to the health of Libby residents. This begs the questions: 1) Why did they continue to spread the contaminant afterwards?; 2) Why didn't they warn the citizens of Libby of the potential hazards; and 3) Why didn't they set up a remediation program to lessen the potential health and economic hardships on WR Grace themself or the citizens of Libby who could and would be struck by the ill effects of asbestosis and related diseases? Money. To blame the federal government is disengenous at best and at worst an attempt to undermine justice through distraction and finger pointing. I worked on the asbestos legislation for a United States Senator from Montana. In fact, these attempts almost cost him re-election in 2000. The federal government had no role in this until the ill-effects had done there most deleterious damage - causing asbestosis in victims.
