TransCanada: Oil Sands Exports Will Go To Asia If Blocked In US | www.downstreamtoday.com

Oil sands from Canada represent the second largest hydrocarbon resource (after Saudi oil).  Canada is our largest supplier of imported oil with close to one MMBBL/day of that being oil from oil sands.  Canada is also a secure supplier. Work is ongoing to reduce the environmental impact of capturing the bitumen from Canadian oil sands.  Directive 74 details one of the requirements for producing companies to improve their managment of the tailings.  New technologies are being developed (see, e.g., SAGD, Vapex, Epic Oil and other approaches) that could dramatically reduce water requirements and lead to much smaller carbon and water footprints for future oil sands projects.

Exxon Struggles To Move The Needle | www.forbes.com

ExxonMobil has always excelled at picking viable projects and flawless execution.  They are not so concerned about quarter to quarter performance as looking long term.  They won't be rushed into bad plays and have the financial strength to be selective and do things strategically.  Long term they will continue to outperform.
