VEGF Trap-Eye May Be Focused on Wrong Target

VEGF Trap-Eye Shows Positive Results in Phase II Study in Patients with Diabetic Macular Edema | www.pipelinereview.com
VEGF Trap-Eye is a anti-VEGF medication that may be used to treat macular degeneration, and in this article, diabetic macular edema. While the results are favorable in this phase II news release, the standard of care may no longer be laser treatment by the time this study is actually completed. Advances in sustained release drug delivery may already dominate the market by the end of this study taking away any significance to the efficacy of this pending study.

Othera's Eye Drop to Cure ARMD Seems Promising But Too Early to Tell
April 16, 2009
Eye drop treatment for dry AMD shows promise in Phase 2 trial | www.othera.com
An eye drop that stabilizes the most common form of AMD is encouraging. The ability for an eye drop to be effective is curious. Historically it has been difficult to get any medication effectively delivered to the retina via topical medications. The development of geographic atrophy is very, very slow and it is surprising that a positive trend can be noted in such a short time.
Wal-Mart's Plans to Enter EMR Market
March 20, 2009
Wal-Mart Plans to Market System for Digital Health Records - NYTimes.com | www.nytimes.com
Walmart's plan to introduce EMR to their demographic is bold, but does not address the key problems of cost, in dollars and man hours, and poor appreciation of computers by the physican community. EMR has a bad connotation amongst physicians, it is a "black box" that is expensive to implement. Most small offices work rather efficiently. Large offices are so inefficient that present EMR systems do offer an advantage.
