Credit card bill not all good for consumers | www.guardian.co.uk
As Obama says, we'd all be better off if we'd live within our means. Regretably government is following the opposite prescription. Thus, the consumer needs to be prepared for a lower dollar, higher interest rates and inflation - along with a sagging economy. If the consumer can't control their spending, it looks like the credit card companies will help them. The impact on the economy is good in the long run, not perhaps in the short run. In the evolving world economy, the US needs to rely more on investment than consumption of cheap consumer goods.

China worried about safety of U.S. debt | money.cnn.com
The key thing to look for here is the number of zeros at the end of the number - i.e. the US is borrowing so many zeros that the rest of the world can't conceivable keep supplying them - even if it manages to do so this year. So, the trenchant question is - what's next?

The decline and fall of Britain's high street | business.timesonline.co.uk
All of the above took place in the US in the 1960's or so. People live and shop for economic utility. This utility can come in the form of convenience, price or pleasure.

Here come more financiers' writedowns | money.cnn.com
The world is floating with unknowns and possibilities. What if Obama was shot and McCain died of a heart attack? The real question is what happens when the world's importer (USA) slows or tries to be net neutral? The US also has to cope with supporting supply in a state when the "UNION" philosophy is why can't I get my high paying job back with a high school education! Well, is it that good an education vis-a-vis someone from China or India?

Dump This House: Unloading Your Property in a Slow Market | online.wsj.com
Since we are only 1/3 of the way into the correction - timing wise at least; people aren't stupid and they are waiting for most of the foreclosed property holders (read banks) and desperate sellers to lower prices. Since the market for loans has gotten tougher plus some buyers have lost their homes, the pool of potential buyers is now below what would be 'normal'. Thus, it makes sense that with fewer than normal 'buyers' and above average numbers of foreclosed, etc. 'homes (plus the homes will need more work to fix them up than with a normal purchase (read extra cash in the hands of the buyer) - 'prices' should have to go below normal clearing prices (read bargains at some point). * Plus, with high gas prices (read oil), western countries are only beginning to see how much wealth (read middle class wealth) is being transferred to other countries (see 'Sovereign Wealth Funds' + Venezuela). This money is not available for houses and other investments.
