NYMEX has been trying to live up to the challenges posed by CBOT in the electronic market place for precious metals derivatives. With the NYMEX pit session still calling the shots in price movements, this tendency to embrace electronic trading could mean a significant shift in dynamics of precious metals derivatives market. I believe the pit session in NYMEX is going to grow insignificant in the days to come and may result in volatility becoming almost even throughout the day. At present the volatility during pit session is more than during the other hours of trading.

Gold, true to its image as a rare metal seems to be set to become even more rare to find. Gold mining is fast becoming a sun-set business with the mining output not increasing by any great extent. With demand holding steady through the years and infact showing tendencies of increasing, the rigid supply conditions may lead to further rise in Gold prices. Gold prices have already risen from about $460 per oz in Nov 2005 to over $620 at present.
