India Outlines Petrochem Plans - Energy Firms Projects Advance | www.chemweek.com

Fromthe above only MRPL's naphtha to PX production of 900,000 tons seems to be meaningful giving a value addition. The additional PX can easily be consumed by Asian and Indian Industies in the production of PTA, SMT which in turn are used for Polyester production. The PX production may help Indian industries to compete more effectively in the Indian scenario. Other investments are worth while only when they help in debottle neckingor value addition. Analyzing proposed investments it is more prudent to divert somemoney towards consolidating non-conventional energy resources.

In the case of Big oil the prices are as it is at the peak and profits may not follow the same proportionate increase. On the contrary the manufacturers have to sacrifice margins to keep the sales volumes from a drastic fall.

Bio fuels - how good they are in containing green house gases?

October 1, 2007

"Green" fuel worsens global warming | www.thestar.com

Bio fuels are processed from organic products like Sugarcane, Rapeseed, Maize and may be one or two more products.Biofuels are derived from plants that absorb the planet-warming greenhouse gas carbon dioxide as they grow, and so are meant as a climate-friendly substitute for fossil fuels. From further studies it appears that bio fuels may create more green house gases like nitrous oxide than they save not taking into account the fossil fuels burned to process the bio fuels.

Importing from China

Toy Recall Shows Challenge China Poses to Partners | online.wsj.com

1. Quality of Products manufactured in China need not necessarily be a representation of other countries of Asia who are extremely quality conscious. 2. In comparision to the past few years it appears China is not taking care of Quality which they have done at the start up of their growth. There may be an exception to this for multinationals set up there. 3. Few questions can be raised why the importers from China are not seeking the inspection of international agencies like SGS,BVQI and the likes. Even if there are problems seeking inspection from international agencies then there must be seriously wrong with the organizational set up of these inspection agencies

Google Takes A Step Toward A Local Sales Force | searchengineland.com

Google is already a household name in India. Any professional suggests to refer to google for any information required whether one is looking for an industrial source or to buy FMCG goods. Google's move for a local sales force will be very much appreciated by its users all over the world because the surfers of the website can get latest information including the changes that took place a few hours ago if not a few days back. This may have definitely some impact on companies like R.H. Donnelly and other Yellow pages and if Google's local task force delivers the material to the website promptly and in time then the users may prefer Google rather than yellow pages. It depends on how Google is going to make their website more user friendly. What an user expect is he/she should be able to refer the information incorporating all changes like telephone numbers, adresses, product details etc., made even a few days ago more quickly with ease.

Investing in Non conventional Energy products beyond traditional Energy

August 14, 2007

Making the Best of $78-a-Barrel Oil | online.wsj.com

In a few years from now traditional energy products like Petroleum and Diesel will be things of the past and are aptly replaced by Nonconventional energy sources like Wind Turbines, Solar cells and other alternative forms of energy. It makes sense for investors to consolidate their investments in the industry or business for generation of alternate forms of energy. For them its like an early bird gets the best'. The investments need not require pouring money but a systematic investment in more exotic instruments, that are designed to generate a steady stream of income and a slew of funds focusing on solar power, wind turbines and others. No doubt these investments can be called lucrative because the returns would also be lucrative. Industries located in countries where sunshine is there around 300 days in a year can reap higher benefits from Solar energy generation and the investors of such industries stand to get much better returns.
