Cisco's Flip Flop Prompts Consumer Complaint, but Wall Street Cheers | adage.com
Cisco announced the shutdown of the Flip video business as part of a retreat from its foray into the consumer market. Cisco's customers, value proposition and channels are all enterprise-centric. This move is no-doubt painful for John Chambers, but to get the company back on track (it has been wandering aimlessly for a decade now), more serious restructuring than simply laying off 0.75% of the workforce and shutting down one minor product line.

Ericsson Wins Nortel Auction | online.wsj.com
Ericsson wins the bidding with $1.13 billion takeover of Nortel Wireless unit. The unit is debt-free and currently profitable (probably for the first time since formation in 1991). Ericsson will greatly expand their footprint in USA and Canada, doubling North American employees and revenues. Some argue that Nokia Siemens Networks blinked and should have been willing to pay more to keep the unit out of their larger nemesis' hands.

Vista Security Report Raises More Doubts Than It Relieves | www.betanews.com
Microsoft suffers from three problems in terms of security: 1. their products have security flaws; 2. their products are perceived to have security flaws; 3. the sins of the past have made their products the target of choice. As usual, Microsoft counters competitive threats head on by challenging the data presented by others. Mostly because of 2 and 3 above, Microsoft must change the game instead of arrogantly arguing with the facts.
