Taiwan Ministry of Economics lost the lawsuits against SMIC Chief Executive Officer Richard Chang (Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation; NYSE: SMI; SEHK: 981) and Robert Tsao of UMC (2303 TT; ADR: UMC) in the District Court and the Administrative High Courts. Though Ministry of Economics and the District Attorney are appealing to higher courts, but the restrictions Taiwan government currently imposes on corporates to their investment in China seems not reflecting the economic demand nor accepted by the courts.
