Who Dares Call Garmin's Nuviphone an iPhone-Killer? | blog.wired.com
Combining a GPS with a touchscreen cellphone is not enough to set a breakthrough or a new trendsetting device in the dense world of cellular handsets. You need to have the uniqueness and the glorious tradition of Apple. Garmin, with all the respect, cannot mimic the success of the iPhone.

Flat rate carries a great benefit to the end customer. He finally can now compare prices offered to him by the cellular providers. More than that, he stops counting or worries from the hiking bills. WiMAX Suffers a Setback | www.businessweek.com
The setback WiMAX suffered from the Nov. 9th announcement on no deal between Clearwire and Sprint Nextel should be seen just as another hurdle in the way WiMAX has to pass until reaching the market with a clear economical model. In an area where so much money has already been spent, and involves the biggest players in the industry ( Intel, Motorola and maybe Google), it is hard to believe that WiMax will see its sunset.

November 12, 2007
Vodafone Signs up for Nokia's Ovi | www.wirelessweek.com
Nokia's Ovi tying up with Vodafone to provide a more open internet platform over the cellular world may partly seen as a preparation to the coming new world of Google's Android and maybe the penetration of Apple's iPhone that sooner or later will be an open platform. As Nokia is not a member of the coalition established by Google, it has carefully analayzed the dramatic changes that soon to happen, and positions itself as a counter solution.

iPhones poised to hit Britain and Germany | today.reuters.com
The coming launch of the iPhone in Britain and Germany opens the Apple era in Europe in the cellular market. However, we will not see the incredible acceptance as demonstrated in June in USA. 200,000 and more will be easily sold as a Xmas gadget but the pace will deteriorate after the holidays because of price, conservative approach, loyalty to Nokia and Sony Ericsson and tie-up 2 year contract between the European providers and the customers.

Google long waiting announcement about its new open platform backed by a coalition consists of the strongest players in the arena provides it a secure path to success. As two years ago, no one could believe google share will be over $700 - we should now have more confidence in this behemoth. Open systems are always a benefit to users and an opportunity to companies to have "free" new application from which they can generate more revenues.

Motorola: On the Other Side of the Springboard?
October 31, 2007
Moto's Signs of Hope | www.unstrung.com
Motorola, once the leader of any wireless solution is facing again its well known situstion where she needs to invent itself from scratch. RAZR days are gone and now time to develop a new market, as RIM did with Blackberry and Apple in iPhone. However, it's more difficult than in the recent past, since it demands high level of creativity, and if such new products are not in their pipeline, then no jumping to second place.
Mr. Jobs Builds on Apple's Early Adopters Loyalty
October 1, 2007
Steve Jobs Offers Rare Apology, Credit for iPhone | online.wsj.com
The $100 rebate offered by Apple's Steve Jobs for his early adopters and "be-the-first" ones iPhone holders, expresses a high confidence in this solid group of Apple's fans that will go after any new product this company releases. No other company would have come out quite "clean" if it had done the same thing: cutting 33% of a newly released product in less than a quarter. However, in my opinion, the price decrease was unnecessary as Apple would have met its own milestone of 1M units.

The Way to SSD Goes through Denser 1.8" HDD
September 3, 2007
Samsung Launches Tiny 160GB Hard Drive | www.pcworld.com
As the 1.8" HDD size is gaining dominance as the leading form factor for portable gadgets, it seems that denser disks will pose a real challege to SSD. The next step, after Samsung's announcement about its 160GB, will be the 250GB which will serve the notebook huge sector. SSD should have a similar solution (size of course will not be the problem) but will have to compete pricewise with some premiuim, and will be introduced in lower densities.
