ISPs, publishers and academics voice outrage at web-block plan | www.businessweek.com
Freedom of speech is an absolute right in our society. Theft is against the law and there are quite specific laws relating to cyber theft. Illegal distribution of copyrighted material is costing the economy billions of dollars a year. There is no one single silver bullet which will stop this. A concerted effort by all parties concerned will shrink the problem, but it will never fully go away.
Good analogy but enormously complicated to implement

The Synaptic Web and the Flux of Information | agoramedia.co.uk
Describing the web as like the brain is valid up to a point. There are judgement issues, remembering and forgetting issues, and flash of insight issues. How the brain currently does this is not well understood at all.

Intel Stuns Wall Street With Nine-fold Increase In Profits | www.itproportal.com
There are a number of reasons, technological, economic, and political which limit how long companies can leave computer systems untouched. Not only to come out of a recessionary environment, but to do so with momentum made investments in IT mandatory - and this trend will accelerate in the coming months.

Technology predictions for 2010 | www.telegraph.co.uk
There are a lot of technologies which can make the technologist in us drool. It is very easy to postulate places where they might - repeat might - become stunning successes. Only rarely does technology push work in the market place. Find an opportunity where these technologies meet a legitimate need or dissatisfaction - or open up a whole new class of markets - and you will succeed. If not, you will waste a ton of money.
Cloud computing offers financial benefits but opens huge new vulnerabilities

Microsoft, Taiwan to develop cloud computing technology | www.totaltele.com
Clouds are being pushed as a money saving technology. When they work properly, this can be true. However, there are a number of serious new security vulnerabilities which exist in clouds which the vendors are keeping silent about and cyber security laws make it extremely difficult to even do the research on how to detect and respond to these vulnerabilities. User beware....

Preemptive Strike? Apple Upgrades Mac Computers | www.businessweek.com
Apple rarely stumbles (at least in a way that hurts their growth). Contrasting what they have with Microsoft is part of their strategy and helps them justify slightly higher prices.

LG to re-enter laptop biz with mini notebooks by year end | economictimes.indiatimes.com
LG makes good equipment. Its reliable and sturdy and does what it says. I would not use the word glitzy to describe their offerings. If they are going to jump back into a market where they did not do well once (a rather unprofitable market for even the best of companies), they have to have something that will truly grab the consumer by the throat and mesmerize him. I don't see that happening.
Not necessarily a collision course

Intel and Apple--future rivals? | news.cnet.com
Apple and Intel both have great expertise and major presence in the arenas where they do business. No question they "could" choose to go head to head, but there is enough space in the world for them not to have to.

iPhone 2.0 Prices: $250, $350, $450 with Subsidies | www.displayblog.com
Apple is willing to be flexible on initial pricing, but is it going to be enough to really ramp up sales. My guess is it will not unless there are a range of new rate plans from the telecoms.

If you look closely at the patent you will be able to easily extrapolate to the iPhone being used in real-time diagnostic applications both industrial and biomedical. Apple has laid a very solid groundwork for diversification into a wide range of profitable new ventures.
