Why would SBI want to invest in the UK? If I was an advisor to SBI that would certainly be the last place I would focus on.Why?No synergies. Too expensive.Although I suppose there is a certain element of pride in attempting to buy into the backyard of a country that ruled and humilated India for too long, there are better international strategies for SBI.

As the world's largest consumer/ user of commodities, China influences pricing. Chinese traders are savvy and good at timing markets: buy low. Economic growth is stronger than most western 'experts' estimate. Therefore, stock piling of commodities appears to be a rational response to a collapse in prices since mid 2008 and expectations of economic growth for the coming quarters.

1) Why is one of the world's largest bank by market capitalization, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), interested in buying ACL, one of Thailand's smallest bank? 2) Bangkok Bank has been trying to 'unload' its 19% stake in ACL since 2007. It seems that this time the price is right. 3) Will Thailand's Ministry of Finance agrees to this? The Thai government owns nearly 31% of ACL.
