Imagine being the business owner in dire need of a specific, no-brainer, killer app and no way to implement. Or imagine being AT&T with hundreds of such customers clamoring for solutions with money ready to spend. Therein was a huge gap. This deal should of been planned at launch of the first iPhone.

Awareness of Department of Justice (DOJ) activity in delving into the Telcoms is nice to know if they are only doing due diligence, but is must know if they are on a mission to break Humpty Dumpty again.  If the former, let them proceed so that they can say they did.  If the latter, the legacy Telcoms should spend PR/PAC $ lavishly to cause appropriate business community outrage at the concept of further government mandated divestiture. First, during the Clinton administration the government stood idly by as SBC's Ed Whitacre (now Chairman of GM) reassembled the divested pieces of AT&T (T), now called AT&T. Second, the communications industry as a whole is wonderfully fragmented and continues to break up like an warming polar ice shelf.  The giants lilke Verizon keep using antiquated biz models inspiring new companies to spring up and thrive in economies bad or good. Early adopters can't wait for the first offer of VoIP on a smart phone while AT&T Wireless fights to prevent.
