Privacy: does it actually exist?
April 16, 2010
Internet and Personal Security | notes2self.net
The main question is if privacy is possible at a time where terrorism and cybercrime in general are flourishing and are becoming alternatives for established groups and individuals. Law enforcement, intelligence and DOD agencies need to have ways to intercept communications on all levels of technologies that support data and voice/video communications to prevent possible attacks and crimes taking place. The question remains in how far they should be allowed to tap any type of communications and how much proof they need to get to get a go ahead from higher levels in the hierarchy. Government snooping on citizens is one thing but when it also is starting to get used by corporations and other organizations it will certainly get out of hand. Guarding productivity is one thing, but monitoring employees or citizens for that on a 24 x 7 level raises questions about our whole society.

Google as provider of patient data: bad idea or egg of Columbus
February 26, 2008
Google to store patients' health records | news.yahoo.com
Google as a provider of patient information is in my humble opinion not a brilliant idea in the present set up. 1. one way authentication using just a user name and password is not enough to safeguard potentially harmful information to the patient 2. this information should only be available to the patients health care provider, doctor, specialist etc. 3. linking of data other then the proposed patient info directly or indirectly can have an even higher impact on someones privacy.

Spyware forum: Computer users often to blame for problems | www.computerworld.com
Key implications of rogueware such as Backdoors, keyloggers, zombie agents and other software components that pose a treat to computer systems and (inter) networks are the negative impact on: 1 availability for core business and other applications and processes 2 integrity of data, data storage, services, data communications, processor activity etc. 3 confidentiality (privacy) of information in all sorts and forms Theft of (proprietary) information and digital assets is another danger and so is data leakage (P2P is one of the biggest culprits here) Without these 3 elements known as the CIA triad in the (info/systems) security arena running businesses, government services, Academic services and such is near impossible if not impossible in some cases. Other serious implications of spyware, or other rogueware is that they can disable security solutions and leave users exposed to unautorized access to their systems, spread, viruses and worms.

IP Addresses Are Personal Data, E.U. Regulator Says | www.washingtonpost.com
I think that businesses should be legally obliged, not just because of legislation, corporate governance or trust towards their clients to safeguard certain if not all information relating to their own busines, that of their partners and clients (business or private). It will impact businesses worldwide but with the danger of both cyber crime and national security growing on monthly bases it is the only way to go in my humble opinion. It should entail 1. Safeguarding private /corporate information for non trusted parties 2. Safeguarding privacy of people, individual or corporate data 3. Minimizing abuse or misuse of certain information
