Will the A321NEO Become the Boeing 757 Replacement
August 27, 2010
The Case for an A321G | airinsight.wordpress.com
An analysis by Air Insight of the re-engined Airbus A321NEO (new engine option) variant expected to be launched in late September shows that this aircraft may become a replacement for the Boeing 757, as the Pratt & Whitney GTF engine will provide it with a significant increase in range. While basically a transcontinental aircraft today, re-engining could change the mission profile of the aircraft, enabling transatlantic operations. Their document may be found here.
No CSeries Orders at Farnborough - No Need for Panic
July 23, 2010
Bombardier did not receive any orders for its CSeries at the Farnborough Air Show, a disappointing performance. There are several reasons that occurred, and no need to panic, as the program remains likely to be a success. Bombardier’s CSeries has reached the same level of orders as the 737-700 and A319 competitors did at similar levels in their development. While it is still way too early to call the CSeries a resounding success, it certainly also way too early to call it a market failure.
Why the GTF Will be a Winner for Pratt & Whitney - Proprietary Technology
July 14, 2010
The new PurePower Geared Turbofan engine from Pratt & Whitney (United Technologies) has already been chosen for 3 narrow-body programs and is under consideration for 3 more. Using innovative proprietary technologies, Pratt & Whitney is making a concerted effort to regain the leadership position in narrow-body propulsion that it lost in the mid 1980. Innovative technology is why they are highly likely to succeed.

April 13, 2010
CSeries - Bombardier has Upped Ante for Entire Industry | www.montrealgazette.com
The new engine technology for the Bombardier CSeries is having an impact on Airbus and Boeing. Boeing and Airbus will react competitively by re-engining. The overall market impact of the CSeries remains at question, as the aircraft has not yet gained traction, a portion of that due to uncertainty regarding the PW1000G Geared Turbo Fan engine.Boeing and Airbus are moving to protect their market share against the CSeries, which indicates that Bombardier and PW have something to offer airlines.
The GTF Will Succeed - with or without Rolls Royce is the question

Pratt touts GTF for narrowbody re-engining, IAE partner Rolls unconvinced | atwonline.com
The Pratt & Whitney PW1000G Geared Turbo Fan will become both a market and technological success -- the key question is whether it will be marketed by the International Aero Engines consortium headed by PW and Rolls Royce, as each wantstheir own design to be the standard bearer for the joint operation. The PW GTF has significant advantages over the competing RB282 and 285, and with successful testing at Airbus, has demonstrated reliability, even in unusual attitudes.PW appears to have a winner.

Who Will be the Next Major US Airline to Fail?

Airlines May Have a Bumpy Ride in Fall and Winter | www.chicagotribune.com
1. Airlines take a long time to die - an average of about 15 years from initial troubles to final liquidation - witness the struggles of PanAm, Eastern, TWA2. Today's environment may push the next carrier over the edge, as cash positions at several major carriers are quite weak, and losses in a traditionally strong quarter don't bode well for the coming traditionally weak quarters3. United, US Airways and American are the three carriers at risk for another round of bankruptcies in late 2009

The Qantas Cancellation - Are there More to Follow
June 26, 2009
Qantas Cancels Orders for 15 Boeing 787s | www.google.com
The latest delay to the 787 has resulted in a cancellation from a major carrier If others follow, the luster of the 787 program will begin to wane as Boeing struggles to get the program on a firm schedule This could result in significant losses for Boeing, and gains for the Airbus A350, particularly for cancellations of the larger -9 model, as Qantas did
Will failures in "Bet the Company" Programs at Boeing and Airbus Result in a Cash Crisis?
June 25, 2009
Boeing and Airbus Dream On as Big Birds Fail to Fly | www.ft.com
Will the airframe manufacturers run out of cash given the high costs of their delayed aircraft programs? Do aircraft manufacturers need to drastically reduce production rates for narrow body aircraft in light of the current recession? Will the lack of cash flow delay replacement models of narrow body aircraft from 2017 to 2020 or beyond, and what impact will it have on the supply chain?
Boeing's Once Rock Solid Credibility is Rapidly Fading
June 23, 2009
Boeing Again Delays Dreamliner Test Flight | online.wsj.com
Will customers lose confidence in Boeing's ability to deliver the 787, after five separate program delays, and cancel orders? Boeing will face increasing costs, both to fix the new problems and in terms of compensation to airlines for additional delays. Just four days ago, Boeing was assuring investors that the first flight for the 787 was on track for later this month - has Boeing lost its credibility in the industry? Each delay for the 787 bodes well for the competing Airbus A350XWB, which is an alternative to the 787.
