The federal government has promised $34 billion for health facilities and providers to purchase EMR and CPOE systems. Companies like Cerner, Allscripts , and GE are tripping over each other to close these deals. So much so that they are offering MU garauntees and interest free financing. But who will be left holding the 'bag' when the dollars don't show up? Maybe this is a wolf in sheep's clothing? Be careful little red riding hood.

A group of 175 healthcare industry organizations, including pharmacy companies, doctors, medical societies and others have requested congress fund support for the expansion of information systems in healthcare. If successful it would greatly expand acquisition of new information systems for health providers while requiring greater coordination among competing firms in the transfer of data. It would establish a new set of specifications for data format, transmission and access.
