Brucellosis is an important but neglected disease in India. This zoonotic disease is present in alllivestock systems and the increased demand for dairy products accompanied with changing andintensified farming practices has raised the concern for increased spread and intensifiedtransmission of this infection to the human population with increased risk of disease. Brucellosiscan be controlled by mass vaccination of livestock. Human brucellosis can be treated with acombination of antibiotics but is very difficult to diagnose and requires laboratory testing forconfirmation. Only a few recent studies have addressed the prevalence and importance of brucellosisas a human disease problem in India. The disease may be overlooked and misdiagnosed because ofthe difficult diagnosis and the absence and lack of experience with laboratory testing. Alertness ofmedical staff is needed to recognize and diagnose the disease. Awareness of risk groups is neededto take appropriate preventive measures and to accept control measures.

Sexual transmitted infections (STIs) represent a vast reservoir of infection among women of reproductive age group especially in developing countries . The HIV pandemic is spreading rapidly in India and has infected more than 4 million individuals. As per studies there is a rapid rise in HIV seroprevalence in high-risk groups like commercial sex workers, patients having STDs and IV drug abusers.The scenario in India about HIV/AIDS is that it is gaining entry into general population and not limited to high risk groups. The first HIV positive case was reported from Chennai (Tamil Nadu ) in 1992 .HIV infection increased from nil in 1986 to 19.9 percent in 2003. It was observed that in males the seropositivity was higher (6.9%) than in females which was (3.3%). It was observed that prevalence was equal in both sexes and the age group affected was between 25 to 29 years
