Need for New Technologies Arises

April 20, 2007

Supreme Court Rulings Change the U.S. Energy Game | www.renewableenergyaccess.com

The new ruling will require power companies completely re-look at the operation of the power plants, because it becomes more and more difficult to address all of the issues relevant to the combustion of coal
Since coal is the least expensive fuel, its usage is going to continue.

The need in applying new technologies relevant to emissions derived from the combustion of coal will lead to the application of new technologies relevant to the removal of the formed ash, that changes its physical and chemical qualities due to the changes in the combustion process, and as a result a need in applying new technologies in environmental or post combustion part, will present itself, because after removing the ash deposits from the heat transfer surfaces, new method of catching the solid particles will be needed.

All of the above suggests that new techniques and technologies in combustion of coal, treatment of ash deposits, physical size reduction, air cleaning by environmental equipment, such as electrical precipitators, baghouses, will be in demand

Potential of Coal

June 8, 2006

Outlook strong for mining sector | www.borsaitaliana.reuters.it

1) Coal has been considered as main fuel not only for utilities but some other basic industries, such as cement production, where fuel is needed to produce a cement clinker.

2) High price of natural gas is making a lot of industries start looking around for different methods of heating, drying and so on.

3) Some secondary gaseous and liquid fuels are possible to obtain from coal chemical treatment (pyrolysis and so on)

4) environmental concerns may negatively affect further expansion of coal, if not approached in the right way (better environmental equipment, for example new methods of coal combustion, treatment of gaseous NOx and SOx emissions, etc).
