It is reported that China accounted for 72 percent of the global IPO proceeds raised in 2009, Almost half the companies that went public in cleantech last year were in China, with 11 IPOs in the fourth quarter alone raising a record combined $3.1 billion.The largest cleantech IPO of 2009 was China Longyuan Electric Power Group which raised $2.23 billion on the Hong Kong exchange. China Huaneng Group, the country's largest power producer is to raise $1 billion from a Hong Kong IPO this year.

The Central Asia-China gas pipeline which is a US$7.3bn project, 1,833 km long with 188 km going through Turkmenistan, 530 from Uzbekistan to Kazakhstan, and 1,115 km from Kazakhstan to China has been inaugurated on the 14th December.The West-East Gas Pipeline crossing China is over 4,500 km long, making of the joint pipelines the longest in the world. With this Turkmenistan, so far dependent on Gazprom for 70% of its export of natural gas has now better options.

But even after seven years, the plant is a nonstarter casting shadows on the Indo-Russian nuclear deal, signed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Moscow to scale up India's nuclear power plans which gave Atomstroyexport a deal for a further 2X1000MW at the same site.
