Sprint – Posting Wider Losses – The Fight is Not Over Yet
July 28, 2011
Sprint Posts Wider Loss, Reaches Network Deal With LightSquared | online.wsj.com
It may be me as a restructuring and turnaround professional, as a telecom engineer, or someone who still has faith in Sprint but I think Sprint’s deal with LightSquared is a smart move.
Sprint – Launches Push to Talk CDMA Phones –Next Generation
July 25, 2011
Sprint Prepares for 4Q Launch of Sprint Direct Connect with Feature-Rich, CDMA Handsets | www.marketwatch.com
I never liked the whole idea of Nextel and Sprint merging. I was sure Dan Hesse was going to dump Nextel when he first took over the reins of Sprint. However, the recession cam in 2008 and he rolled with the punches and embraced Nextel. He could not sell Nextel so he embraced it.
TaskRabbit – What a Great Idea
July 19, 2011
Don’t Want to Run Errands? Site Lets You Outsource Them | blogs.wsj.com
TaskRabbit is a great idea. I liken it to personal assistants people hire to perform the mundane tasks they refuse to do for themselves. I liken it to temp hires.
Groupon – Proves E-Advertising Works; Just Not Only for Them
July 16, 2011
Groupon's Boston Problem: Copycats | online.wsj.com
I applaud Groupon for its success. I am a supporter of the web-based discount coupon business model. It just makes sense.

July 14, 2011
Holders Re-Elect RIM Board | online.wsj.com
This has to be one of the worse decisions I have heard in the last year. However, the bright side of this is that Royal Bank of Canada came up with a good idea.
RIM – EMEA Performance Is Not Enough – The Board Does Not Know Its Own Job
July 9, 2011
RIM Boasts of 1M New Subs in EMEA | www.wirelessweek.com
I congratulate RIM for boosting its numbers in EMEA. However, it is an age-old trick that new technology companies in North America have used to generate their first revenues and sometimes to boost unit sales. Unfortunately, RIM’s revenue numbers are dropping.

June 26, 2011
Misfires in Marketing at BlackBerry | online.wsj.com

RIM – So Long, Good Bye – Time To Turn this Around or Sell It
June 21, 2011
RIM Shares Fall After Warning | online.wsj.com
I hate to say this but; I told you so. I said this months ago, this was going to happen if RIM was not going to develop a new product that would catch with the consumer.

June 11, 2011
Carriers Sweat as Texting Cools Off | online.wsj.com
There are a few times in an industry’s history that you can point to an event and say “that is a turning point in that industry”. Well, Apple’s and Google’s announcements on their new messaging applications is one of those moments in the telecom business.

Einhorn Effect: Microsoft Shoots Higher After Hedge Fund Endorsement | blogs.wsj.com
Einhorn may have a point with what is going on with Microsoft. Wall Street operates by perception. It does not matter if Ballmer is a smart or a good guy, perception is reality. The tragedy of the stock market is that perception is reality and facts do not seem to matter.
Nokia – Undergoing a Massive Turnaround
April 28, 2011
Nokia to Shake Up Workforce | online.wsj.com
Nokia’s recent actions are all signs of a massive turnaround that is underway. The company had announced layoffs months ago and now they are happening. My suggestion to Mr. Elop: make sure the investment community knows what you are doing and why. Transparency, an overused and misused word in Washington, D.C., is absolutely necessary in a turnaround of this magnitude.
Google – It Takes Money to Make Money
April 16, 2011
High Costs Slow Google's Profit | online.wsj.com
I understand Wall Street’s concern about Google expenses rising. However, to make money you need to spend money. Wall Street stock brokers would love have a company generate massive profits without expenditures. Just ain’t gonna happen.

Is Japan Still a Stable Location for High-Tech Manufacturing? | www.ebnonline.com
As I had noted in my own website back in March 2011, the Japanese earthquake could have long-term impacts on the manufacturing of semiconductor chips in Japan and basically the entire electronics industry. Well, it appears it has all come true.
Sprint Lobbying Efforts – Outspent by AT&T
March 30, 2011
AT&T Outguns Sprint in Lobbying | online.wsj.com
Well you live and learn. The problem with regulatory budgets is that they are massive and unless you have a specific set of short term and long term objectives in mind, then it is important not to spend the money just for the sake of it. In short, Sprint did not need to spend that kind of money on lobbying in the last few years.
RIM – In Deep Trouble – No Surprise

RIM Stirs Investor Doubts | online.wsj.com
