WILL COLUMBIA SUSSEX ALLOW NEW MANAGEMENT TO BRING THEM BACK TO A VALUED COMPANY
March 24, 2008
TROPICANA OWNER HIRES NEW MR. FIX IT | www.lasvegassun.com
This could be a sound move by Columbia Sussex. The hiring of Scott Butera could cause the company to move in a different direction. Where do they go from here? Will senior management allow Scott the freedom to make corrections in their company policy?
COLORADO CASINOS HAVING FINANCIAL PROBLEMS WITH THE SMOKING BAN
March 20, 2008
CASINO SMOKING BAN SINGES REVENUES - COLORADO | www.denverpost.com
To smoke or not to smoke - a question that is being pondered by casino properties in Colorado. It's not the only State that has either implemented or plans to start non smoking casino properties. It seem that it has affected the bottom lime for the Colorado properties. The facts are that it may be a deterrent for some smoking guests to not go into a smoke free casino.
CASINO EMPLOYEES SHOULD BE SHELTERED FROM ALL TYPES OF ABUSE
March 17, 2008
TRIBE ACCUSED OF DESCRIMINATION BY FIRED EMPLOYEE | news.rgj.com
If the allegations by Nancy Kerry is fact ( a former employee of the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California) it's a real slap in the face for all employees of this tribe. It certainly could have a bad face on customer relation. If true, why would the tribe even consider this type of behavior? It's hard to understand........
CAN THE SEMINOLE'S REALLY STAY IN PLACE IN FLORIDA - MAYBE OR MAYBE NOT
March 12, 2008
FLORIDA CASINO-OWNING TRIBE SAYS - WE'LL STICK TO HOME | www.lasvegassun.com
Is it really feasible for the tribe to stay within the boundaries of Florida. They have a strong brand with they Hard Rock name - can they afford to let it remain a captive audience for Florida or visa versa. There are many opportunities out there to stay dormant. Where are they headed?
THE CASINO MARKET IS STRONG - IT HAS INCREASED STEADILY THROUGH THE YEARS AND SHOULD CONTINUE

GROWTH IN GAMING SLOWS - REVENUE MARK SET, RATE OF INCREASE SLIPS | www.lvrj.com
I am not sure what all the fuss is about. There is a down turn in business, however in most cases is has not taken a real bite out of the Nevada casino market. Can the casinos maintain their present status through 2008 - it remains to be seen, however, if past figures are any indication it looks good for the industry.
CASINOS HAVE ALWAYS WISHED FOR A WAY TO CONTROL SLOTS THROUGH USE OF A COMPUTER - IT'S NOW POSSIBLE
February 18, 2008
DON'T WORRY: YOUR SLOT BETS ARE STILL SAFE | www.lasvegassun.com
There is good vibes being placed into the hands of the casino slot departments. A quick change over for a single machine or a bank of slot or for that matter the entire floor. It's been a not so secret wish of the slot departments to be able to generate change without direct entry into a machine. Server based machines could be the wave of the future.
MONEY TALKS AND THE SLOT MACHINES WALK - TO A FEW PROPERTIES, THAT IS
February 11, 2008
TRIBES SURVEY CHANGED CASINO LANDSCAPE / PECHANGA WASTES NO TIME ROLLING OUT NEW SLOTS AFTER VICTORY AT THE BALLOT BOX | www.nctimes.com
One of the major impacts of this deal does not have anything to do with the selected properties. It has to do with the slot manufacturing companies. It's going to be a terrific shot in the arm for them. There are other situations facing the placing of new slots in a property. It could be a blessing or maybe a problem keeping them filled with customers.
WHAT POSSIBLY COULD BE GOING ON WITH COLUMBIA SUSSEX - TROPICANA'S OWNER
February 11, 2008
OWNER OF THE TROPICANA IS, IN FACT, BEING INVESTIGATED | www.lasvegassun.com
The Nevada Gaming Commission is taking an in depth look into the trouble surrounding Columbia Sussex. The loss of their Atlantic City property has placed them in jeopardy - can there be a way out for them? What part does the Culinary Union play in their possible demise?
COMP POLICIES HAVE A SOLID PLACE IN CASINO HISTORY - HOW DOES IT AFFECT TO BOTTOM LINE
January 25, 2008
GAMBLERS' BEST BETS FOR FREE DRINKS, MEALS IN CLARK COUNTY ARE LAUGHLIN, THAT OTHER STRIP | www.lasvegassun.com
Money, cash, dollars, dough - I don't care how you use these words -it's the bottom line that is most important. Does a strict comp policy aid or distract from the profit picture of a property? Where do these casinos draw the line with customers that have become used to the best of the best comps?
THE TROPICANA NEEDS A SERIOUS GROUP - IT'S A WAY TO SUCCESS
January 24, 2008
GROUP TO BID FOR TROPICANA IN ATLANTIC CITY - OFFER BY DEVELOPER TOPS RIVAL BY $100 MILLION | www.lvrj.com
It would be evident that by offering of an additional $100 million for the opportunity to purchase the suffering Tropicana in Atlantic City is a rather large jump. It's is just what the property needs. There must be a serious buyer involved to take this property out of gutter and back to where it belongs.

BIGGER AND BIGGER, MAYBE NOT BETTER - SOME OBSERVERS WONDER IF "CES" IS WORTH THE TROUBLE AND COST | www.lvrj.com
Does it seem a bit of a farce for the hotels to price themselves out of the convention market? It's a far cry from good marketing to abuse their guests with inflated prices that are completely out of sight. Just because the hotels think that whatever they charge for rooms during this most favored convention will be tolerated by attendee's is poor confidence builder with these patrons. It's would be an enormous loss of revenue should CES decide to move on after their contract runs out.
WHAT IS THE THINKING OF THE MISSOURI LEGISLATURE TO KEEP A LOSS CAP OF $5OO ON CASINO PLAYERS
January 14, 2008
INSIDE GAMING: MISSOURI CASINOS WANT TO ELIMINATE $500 LOSS CAP | www.lvrj.com
My best guess is that when this cap was placed on player loss their really was no thought of the future of gaming in Missouri. It would make investment by outside sources think twice prior to supplying big bucks to the industry there. It would certainly limit growth at any rate.
THE STATUS QUO FOR DEALERS AND MANAGEMENT HAS COME TO AN ABRUPT END - WHERE TO GO FROM THIS POINT ON

Las Vegas Flamingo Dealers Say Union Efforts Draw Fire | www.lvrj.com
This could be a very significant move on the part of the Flamingo dealers. It would be the second property of Harrah's to go union. It could be the start of a domino effect toward the remainder of their hotel/casinos in Nevada.
LOOKS AS THOUGH THE DEAL IS ALMOST DONE - HARRAH'S ENTERTAINMENT AWAITS THEIR NEW OWNERS
December 26, 2007
$17.7 BILLION DEAL - HARRAH'S BUYOUT CLEARS NEVEADA | www.lvrj.com
What actually is on the mind of the new ownership of Harrah's? They have been very tight lipped about where they might be headed at the start of this new relationship. They are sitting on some land that Harrah's has paid substantial numbers for. It will be a hard choice to let the project stay status quo for any length of time. I think there will be some announcement when this purchase is completed in a few weeks.
LOOKS LIKE COLUMBIA SUSSEX IS HEADING FOR ROCK BOTTOM
December 14, 2007
LICENSE REVOKED - TROPICANA DENIED BY NEW JERSEY PANEL | www.lvrj.com
The major implication is that Columbia Sussex has lost the Tropicana in Atlantic City. They also have The Tropicana in Las Vegas plus more properties in Nevada. They could possibly be in jeopardy of losing just a bit more if they don't learn the gaming business and real quick....
THE DOWN UNDER GAMING COMPANY IS LOOKING TO GET INTO THE LAS VEGAS CASINO MARKET THE EASY WAY

CANNERY CASINOS RESORTS SOLD (Las Vegas & Pittsburgh,Pa) | www.lvrj.com
The Packer family of casinos are entering the Nevada casino business. They have chosen a rather easy method of doing this. They purchased a very good local gaming entity - The Cannery and the Rampart are very secure in the local casino market. This can only enhance their future plans in this market area.......
TAXES AND MORE TAXES CAN PUT SERIOUS PRESSURE ON THE CASINO BUSINESS
December 12, 2007
STATES LOOK TO CASINOS FOR CASH FIX | www.lasvegassun.com
It's time for all the do gooders to back off before they kill a very successful industry. The State legislatures always need more money. The burden to provide the funds should not fall on the gaming industry alone. There is a very strong need to keep the gaming environment alive and well. Taxing until it's broken does not make sense...
CAESARS PALACE DEALERS JOINING WYNN LAS VEGAS DEALERS - IT'S UNION
November 22, 2007
DEALERS SOUR ON CAESARS - LAS VEGAS | www.lasvegassun.com
The union organizing at Caesars Palace can't be a good sign for management. It can be only a sign of discontent with employees that are the face of the property - the dealers. There should have never been a need for dealers at the Wynn or CP to want to unionize. It can only put an added burden on the cost of doing business for these properties......
NEW STATIONS PARTNERSHIP STARTING OFF WITH A BANG -
November 21, 2007
STATIONS CASINOS AQUIRES 45 ACRES - (LAS VEGAS) | www.lvrj.com
Having just recently purchase an additional 45 acres will just add more fuel to Stations fire. They seem to have so much going on, one would wonder if they can keep their efforts properly directed. It seem that the new partnership of the Fertitta brothers (Stations Casinos) and Colony Capital has started to move. They have not let any grass grow under their corporate feet.
PLANET HOLLYWOOD RESORT/CASINO IS LOOKING FORWARD TO A BRIGHT FUTURE
November 12, 2007
LAS VEGAS - HIGH TIMES ON THE HORIZON AROUND PLANET HOLLYWOOD RESORT | www.lvrj.com
Can Planet Hollywood just rely on two towers of Time Share and condo sales to bolster their bottom line. The investment will be substantial and the results must make this move justifiable. The introduction of time share into their portfolio should certainly make a large difference in cash flow when the time share is sold out....
