LAS VEGAS AND MACAU - HERE WE GO AGAIN
November 12, 2007
STRIP vs STRIP (MACAU and LAS VEGAS STRIP) | www.lvrj.com
The fact that the Cotai strip was once barren and lacking in any real future can't be an issue. If push comes to shove, the Las Vegas Strip at one time had less of a chance to be what is is today than Macau. The facts are, and the comparisons should be, made to look at numbers. Where will each be ten years from now. How will investment in Las Vegas compare to that of Macau. These are interesting questions.

MERGERS & AQUISITIONS: STATIONS BUYOUT CLEARS LAST HURDLE | www.lvrj.com
What does this purchase and partnership mean to Station Casinos? Will it put them into a new financial situation that will allow more properties under their umbrella? I think it will be a significant factor in their future.
STATION CASINOS HAS THE OPPERTUNITY TO GROW WITH THE HELP OF COLONY CAPITAL

GAMING COMMISSION: STATIONS BUYOUT APPROVED | www.lvrj.com
OK - The Nevada Gaming commissions has finally approved the buyout of Station Casinos. Where do they go from here. I don't see any real problems with this new partnership. No doubt that the running of Stations will be in the capable hands of the Fertitta brothers. They have shown a very solid feel for knowing what the gaming market needs and they have been filling that need. Don't try and fix what is not broken should be the story with Colony Capital.
IS MARYLAND SEEKING THE CORRECT AVENUE TO REDUCE STATE DEBT - MAYBE

MARYLAND GOVERNOR SEE SLOTS SOLUTION TO BUDGET WOES | www.lvrj.com
The save all to everyone is casino gambling - it solves all the financial problems that the state may find themselves in. A good statement, however, not always a fact of life. I am sure that the Governor of Maryland has good intentions - gaming is not the cure all that will make debt go away. The first problem for Maryland is to convince their people that casino gaming is legitimate and that it will certainly foster some substantial revenue sharing.
THE GOLDEN NUGGET IS LOOKING AT THE LONG HAUL - A GOOD MOVE FOR OWNERS LANDRY'S RESTAURANTS

MORE POLISH FOR THE GOLDEN NUGGET (LAS VEGAS) | www.lvrj.com
Can the recent improvements and the contemplated adding of rooms help this downtown oasis. The answer is a definite yes. It will also put pressure on the competition to upgrade to keep on an even playing field. Where is the added business going to come from to fill these rooms. It's up to Golden Nugget marketing team to devise solutions for this big investment. It's a good possibility for the GN to show some very real improvement in the downtown arena......
ATLANTIC CITY NEEDS THE MGM MIRAGE - THEY HAVE THE ALL THE EXPERTISE TO MAKE THIS DEVELOPMENT WORK

BOARDWALK BOUND:- MGM MIRAGE PLANS ATLANTIC CITY'S LARGEST HOTEL/CASINO PROJECT | www.lvrj.com
There should be no doubt in anyone's mind that the entrance of MGM Mirage on the Atlantic City coast line can only be a big boost for business. Even though they are partnered with Boyd Gaming Group at the Borgata, they will make a substantial impact on this area with a City Center type project. I think there is terrific potential for this type of hotel/casino - they can only be a positive entry into this market arena.
PINNACLE ENTERTAINMENT TRYING TO GET A VEGAS STYLE MARETING LEG UP

GAMBLING BEYOND LAS VEGAS: Atlantic City casino to get LV-Style exit | www.lvrj.com
The point of a first ever implosion of an older property to make room for new construction makes good sense. It's fast, clean and offers the public a new kind of demolition to witness. Will it help business to any significant measure - probably not. It certainly might aid other properties a bit giving them a short in the arm for a day or two. Other than that????
THIS DEAL COULD BRIGHTEN THE PICTURE FOR MGM AND MGM MIRAGE
September 17, 2007
MGM MIRAGE DEAL: DUBAI BUYS INTO THE STRIP | www.lvrj.com
The point of this endeavor is for MGM and it's sister companies to get a financial foot up. It's could eventually end up in a very strong partnership for all concerned. When there is no end of cash reserves a strong brand company such as MGM could find themselves in some countries that others may not be able to enter. Interesting possibilities.
THE TROPICANA IS IN DIRE NEED OF SOME HELP NOW NOT LATER
September 14, 2007
TROPICANA MAKEOVER ON HOLD NOW | www.lvrj.com
It seems that the main function of the leadership of the staff put in place at the Tropicana by Columbia Sussex is there to chop heads. The use of a very lean staff does not compliment the Property. There are many distractions going on there and the delay in starting construction is just another downward move...... When will they actually see the light??????
Problem players are not new to the casino or other gaming venues
September 11, 2007
FUNDING ADDED FOR PROBLEM GAMING PROGRAM | www.lvrj.com
Is it possible to help the player with a serious gaming problem? It's hard to say, however, there has been a trend for many years to help these people. Can there be a stigma placed on gaming because there is problem gamblers all over the world? Only by the people that think they have the answers - that one cure solves it all, does not apply in this instance...
Will this entry on the Macau resort area lead to a new building boom???
August 29, 2007
MACAU MEGARESORT | www.lvrj.com
What direction will the building of this mega property have on future resort construction in Macau. The bottom line is, it can only enhance the area's future. Not that it needs much help at this point. The question that should be on our mind - can they train the majority of the day trippers to stay over night?
THIS HOOTERS SALES MAY BE THE BEST JESSE JAMES DEAL EVER ...........
August 21, 2007
LAS VEGAS: HOOTERS DEAL LIVES | www.lvrj.com
The prospective new owners of the the Hooter Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas should take a very hard second look at this purchase. Regardless of the investment the present owners may have put into Hooters when they converted it from the San Remo - the loss should at least be shared by the buyers as well as the seller in this deal. The impact of a $235 million dollar purchase, plus the investment needed to get this property into the modern mode will keep anyone in their right mind from buying at the price offered.
Look for a new start for the land that held the Frontier for so many years
August 15, 2007
WITH DEAL SIGNED, RUFFIN ERA ON LAS VEGAS STRIP OFFICIALLY ENDED | www.lvrj.com
The new owners have a giant task on their ever growing plate. The recent purchase of the Frontier Hotel and all the land it sit on will be developed very soon. There is a plan to implode the property in the very near future. No doubt, they would like to use the name Plaza but they may find a bit of difficulty doing so. The plans for this property have not as yet been forthcoming, however, they do plan to invest about $5.5 billion into this venture. With those dollars, one could surmise that the new property will rival the best LV has to offer.
GROWTH OF GAMING WIN THROUGH JUNE SLOWER THAN IN THE PAST

CASINO REVENUE: CASINOS NOT RAKING IT IN AS READILY | www.lvrj.com
There is, from time to time, certain off periods for any business. Generally speaking, most other businesses don't always recover that quickly. The casinos, on the other hand, have a tendency to find ways of restoring their business in a sensible time frame. To be concerned about Nevada and it's very solid gaming industry is a bit premature to say the least.
Boyd Gaming - a solid and generally very sound company
August 9, 2007
CHARGES FIGURE IN SENDING BOYD GAMING PROFITS LOWER | www.lvrj.com
The market analysts need to stop jumping on gaming stocks at every turn of a card. Boyd Gaming is a strong, well run and diversified company. One of the reasons that we are seeing a move to private ownership is the concern of having to answer to stock holders that may have never entered a casino - and probably never will. I am sure that analysts that continue to utter their magic over the gaming industry need to get out and see the real world. Just one man's opinion............
-HARRAH'S ANNOUNCES PLANS TO ENLARGE CAESARS PALACE -
July 30, 2007
THE STRIP: EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHES | www.lvrj.com
What will be accomplished with the addition of about 700 rooms for Caesar's Palace? In the scheme of things to come, will it make a real difference with the addition on the strip of City Center by MGM Mirage and the Echelon by the Boyd Group? These two new mega resorts will certainly dip into the data base of Caesar's and other properties on the strip. The answer, from the view of the insider, says yes. In order to compete, you always need to stay in tune with the major competition. Caesar's is 40 plus years old and really does not look any worse for the passing years. If handled correctly they will still maintain a spot in the hire archery of the top places to be.
AS LAS VEGAS GROWS - SO MUST IT'S OLDER PROPERTIES TRY AND KEEP UP
July 23, 2007
LUXOR'S NEW LOOK - FAREWELL TO EGYPT | www.lvrj.com
The cost of bringing a property up to date must always justify the value perceived. That said, The Luxor Hotel & Casino has been in need of some serious clean up, paint up and fix up for some time. In order to stay competitive with other properties in their category, they were long over due in the up dating of their rooms and public areas. The Madalay Group (former owner) left well enough alone. MGM Mirage (new owners) took a much more sensible course of action. Bring it into the 2007 market. A good choice...
DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS REARS IT'S HEAD AGAIN - IS IT A SOUND PURCHASE
July 23, 2007
DOWNTOWN DREAM-CRITICS SCOFF AT DEVELOPERS AMBITIOUS PLANS TO REVIVE THE GOLD SPIKE | www.lvrj.com
Can a property in the downtown area have a chance to make it on it's own? Will the needed investment in the purchase and modernization of this property be realized? It's hard to imagine that the Gold Strike could be anything more than a grind joint. (dollar players or short stops as they are known in the business)
GOVERNOR ADDS SOME PIZZAZ TO LOCAL CASINOS
July 11, 2007
GOVERNOR SIGNS GAMING AGREEMENTS (CALIFORNIA) | www.thedesertsun.com
What reason would Governor Sshwarzeneggar want to add slots to a limited number of Native American casinos in his state? How does this addition affect the way other casinos in California are able to add more gaming to their property? It's certainly an interesting move on the part of the Governor.
GAMING SHOULD BE ON AN EQUAL FOOTING WITH ALL OTHER BUSINESS IN THE STATE

GAMBLING EXPERT SHEDS DOUBT ON CALIFORNIA SLOT PLAN | news.bloodhorse.com
We have been over some of this in prior articles, however, it keeps popping it ugly head up time after time. The Federal in their infinite wisdom decided to make the reservations a hand off entity. They are taking full advantage of this sovereign nation thing with out much care for what goes on around them. There needs to be some parity.
