THE BLACKSTONE HAS PURCHASED HILTON - A GOOD MOVE!
July 6, 2007
Will Blackstone’s Hilton Deal Put Others in Play? | online.wsj.com
Blackstone Group purchase will add thousands of rooms to their already large inventory. Should this be considered a good deal for all? This may be a better deal for Hilton stockholders than meets the eye. They will be looking at a substantial increase in their stock investment portfolio's to the tune of about 30% give or take a little. It's a solid move by both companies.
A DIFFICULT PROPERTY TO MAINTAIN CUSTOMER LOYALTY
July 5, 2007
INVESTORS GROUP TAKES A VILLAGE (Nevada) | www.lvrj.com
Ok, so where does this casino draw it's customer base from? The Montelago Casino is not in a very good gaming area. They were having a great deal of problems enticing local play. The competition is very stiff in the surrounding Henderson area. (suburb of Las Vegas) Their marketing has had a lot to be desired - how can a fix be made by the new owners. (Pacific Capital)
AN EMPLOYMENT SNAG MAY HIT LAS VEGAS IN THE NEW HIRING PROCEEDURE
June 26, 2007
CASINO HIRING SCRAMBLE STARTS - (LAS VEGAS) | www.lvrj.com
The problem with all the new properties being opened over the next few years could create a people void. There may be more jobs than employees to fill the positions. The scramble won't be for the applicants - it will be for the new properties and the casinos that have their people move to the newer more desirable jobs. Interesting scenario.......
BOULDER HWY GAMING ARENA HAS LONG NEEDED SOME MORE INTEREST BY DEVELOPERS
June 22, 2007
BOULDER HWY - LAS VEGAS FORGOTTEN AREA- NOW STARTING TO GROW | www.lasvegassun.com
A very strong and viable gaming area has long been neglected by all but a couple of very nice properties. The Boulder Station and Sam's Town to name the properties in question. The quest by the Eastside Cannery, that is now under construction, will add some new flavor to a rather dull street. It should help other investment groups see the merit in this gaming corridor. It's needed and can be highly successful.
AN INTERESTING CHOICE OF PARTNER PLANNING A CASINO FOR LAS VEGAS
June 20, 2007
AUSTRALIAN MAGNATE TO INVEST IN LAS VEGAS CASINO | www.lvrj.com
Quite frankly, I find no fault with James Packer keeping the Ho family in his corner. It might be a bit more interesting at licensing with Lawrence Ho, son of the famous Stanley Ho, of Macau casino lure. It has been a past reason for MGM to go before the board when they partnered with Pansy Ho for their Macau venture. My guess would be that James reputation would certainly carry the day and would bring influence on Nevada Gaming Commission. I don't look for any pink slips in this deal - it will probably be passed with not much fanfare.
INDIAN GAMING SEEMS TO BE THE LOCAL GAMBLERS VENUE OF CHOICE
June 18, 2007
INDIAN CASINOS GROSS $25 BILLION IN 2006 | money.aol.com
The continued increase in Indian gaming should not be a surprise to any of the people that track such figures. It is a natural continuation of a trend that was started some years ago. It was a trend that was generally scoffed at by some of the major players in the Las Vegas and Atlantic City markets when Indian gaming came into it's own. It was generally thought to be a nuisance and not a potential threat to the so called LV & AC gaming houses.
THIS IS PART OF HARRAH'S DESIGN FOR THEIR FUTURE RESORT ON THE LAS VEGAS STRIP
June 18, 2007
DOES HARRAH'S ENTERTAINMENT REALLY WANT THE IMPERIAL PALACE | www.lvrj.com
The purchase of the Imperial Palace should be no concern for anyone. This is part of a planned move that secured the 350 acres needed for Harrah's new mega resort. There should also be no concern that they have not seen fit to bring this property directly under their umbrella. So what - it's just a matter of time until they take this property down. The real concern should be will the new owners of Harrah's continue with their plans for a major resort on the above mentioned acres.
THE GOLDEN NUGGET IS THE PEARL OF THE DOWNTOWN GAMING AREA
June 18, 2007
A GLIMMER OF GOLD FOR DOWNTOWN GOLDEN NUGGET | www.lvrj.com
Where does the Golden Nugget go from here. This is a very good property and is certainly the main attraction for the downtown area. Here is the question that Landry's (owners) must answer - can they survive in a rather depleted gaming arena? What would the impact be should they not be able to keep their head above water? It's a matter that must concern management......
IS THIS PROPOSED NEW DEVELOPMENT GOING TO PROVIDE THE AREA WITH THE NEEDED ECONOMIC BOOST?
June 4, 2007
DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT: HELP IS ON THE WAY | www.reviewjournal.com
Just because there might be a new investor that has an interest in the Lady Luck casino does not necessarily mean an answer to a prayer. There is a definite need for investors of all kinds to take an interest in the downtown gaming and business corridor. It is the only way to revive the place and keep it in the 2007’s...
KIRK KERKORIA PLANS A BIT OF A JOLT WITH PLANS TO TAKE PART OF MGM/MIRAGE PRIVATE
May 23, 2007
SURPRISE OFFER A SHREWD MOVE - BELLAGIO, CITY CENTER DEAL WOULD ENRICH ALL | www.lasvegassun.com
The plan by financial giant Kirk Kerkorian to make some serious changes to MGM/Mirage came out of the blue for most of the supposed in the know group. It has made their stock take a big hike closing just fractionally above $17.00 a share surge at $79.98 - regardless of how the board votes the boost at this time is significant. There is a good chance of this trend leveling off and returning a bit closer to the original price prior to announcing his intentions.
LOOKS LIKE THE NEW FRONTIER HOTEL IS BE SOLD TO A SOLID HOTEL GROUP
May 22, 2007
VERSION OF NEW YORK'S PLAZA HOTEL WILL BE AT CENTER OF PROJECT TO REPLACE THE NEW FRONTIER | www.lvrj.com
This is a sensational move on the part of owner Phil Ruffin - he sold his property for an outrageous sum of money. The New York/Israeli group purchasing it did not sneeze at the prospect of over paying for strip property. The impact for the entire strip will be a boost in raw land values. Personally, I thought they were in the high range prior to this deal being made.
What problems face Station Casinos Should Soboba Tribe get a license to operate in Las Vegas
May 21, 2007
STATION CASINOS LOBBIES AGAINST TRIBES PLAN FOR CASINO | www.lvrj.com
Can the entry into Las Vegas by the Soboba Tribe trigger any anxiety for Stations? Can there really be a major impact to local gaming that would, in effect, cut Stations profitability? The main thought is if their consideration for a license could open the flood gates for other Tribal Nations to follow suit. NO, NO, NO and again NO!
WYNN RESORTS SHOWS WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MACAU - THE DOLLARS LOOK MUCH BETTER
May 10, 2007
MACAU SUCCESS LIFTS WYNN RESORTS' QUARTER | www.lvrj.com
Macau has been a huge plus for Wynn Resorts and their future profitability. It will allow them to build second properties in both Las Vegas and the Cotai Strip. The cash flow in Macau has shown to be their golden fleece - a large golden fleece........
STATIONS CASINOS SEMI SOLD / A PARTNERSHIP IN GOOD STANDING FOR THE BETTER
May 9, 2007
GOING PRIVATE: FERTITTAS WILL CASH -TAKE STAKE (Stations Casinos) | www.lvrj.com
The real importance of this acquisition/partnership is it will allow Stations move on to a better financial position. It leaves the operating partner, the Fertitta brothers still at the helm of the company. It allows significant movement towards the completion of the properties now on the very large plate without input from stockholders.
MGM/MIRAGE PURCHASE WILL CREATE A NEW BUILDING BOOM FOR THE LAS VEGAS STRIP
April 24, 2007
MGM BUY COULD BOOST STRIP INVESTMENT | www.lvrj.com
MGM/MIRAGE has very quietly purchased all the property from Circus Circus to Sahara Avenue. The question that comes to mind is, just what will they do with this extremely valuable parcel of land and buildings? BUILD, BUILD and BUILD some more. It's a terrific acquisition for them. It will help upgrade the North portion of the Strip and it needs some help in that area. It will increase values and keep potential investments by other groups on pace. It has enormous possibilities for the entire Strip and surrounding businesses.
-A VERY REAL PROBLEM FACING THE WYNN LAS VEGAS-
April 18, 2007
TIP SHARING DISPUTE: WYNN DEALERS NEARING VOTE ON UNION | www.lvrj.com
It's hard to comprehend why a company with so many good and talented people on board would allow a situation like this to continue. It certainly can't be good for the morale of the employees. It places stress between management and their most important line employees. It also brings into consideration the decision making abilities of their top brass. Some of which have never been in the trenches - it could add a significant financial to the Wynn and looks bad for the head honcho who recieved $10 million in compensation for the year.
LOOK FOR BRIGHT NEW THINGS TO HAPPEN AT THE "NEW PLANET HOLLYWWOD" HOTEL AND CASINO
April 17, 2007
Bye, bye Aladdin; hooray for Hollywood INSIDE GAMING | www.lvrj.com
Having completed the transition from the Aladdin to Planet Hollywood was no easy task. This owners of the new Planet Hollywood property shoud now be able to make a dent in the tourist trade that left the old Aladdin out in the cold for many to many years. It's a serious plus for the Las Vegas strip and the surrounding hotels and retail business that will feed off them.
TRUMP CAN DO THE JOB NEEDED TO CREATE A SUCCESS IN ATLANTIC CITY
April 16, 2007
CAN TRUMP CASINOS KEEP UP WITH THE NEIGHBORS ? | www.nytimes.com
Donald Trump has always had the ability to make his Atlantic City properties the ones to look up to in this area. My feel here was that it was not a necessary evil to make competition with his own properties, but to the others on the boardwalk. There is no doubt that the newer properties had a temporary advantage - they always do. It is not only a fact only in AC, but in any gaming area. There real problem that faced the Trump gaming organization was how not to maintain the status quo...........
THE RIVIERA HOTEL/CASINO CAN'T SURVIVE IN TODAYS MARKET
April 13, 2007
RIVIERA HOLDINGS CHIEF DEFENDS BID REJECTION | www.lvrj.com
It was an understandable move on the part of Riviera Holdings to drop the bid most recently afforded them by an investment group. It stands to reason that they could have a bidding war as did the Tropicana when Aztar placed it for sale. The outlook of a sale for $25.00 to $28.00 was not held in much esteem and did not make very much sense to the stockholders. Other properties had sold on and off the Strip for much more. It's only my opinion, however, a bid in the realm of $32.00 to $35.00 a share would create a wake up call for Riviera Holdings. They need to make a major investment into the property or rid themselves of it. The latter is the best of both world for all concerned.
ARE THEY CLOSING IN ON THE NUMBERS POSTED BY NON TRIBAL GAMING IN THE U.S.
April 12, 2007
NATIVE AMERICAN CASINO GAMBLING | www.casinogamblingweb.com
The figures quoted in the attached article state that Native American Gaming has reached a figure of about $23 billion dollars. I have the feeling that if a new survey was taken it would show much closer to $30 billion. Not bad for area's that prior to the inclusion of this form of gaming had little interest in allowing gambling to happen in their States. So much for the Nay Sayers.
It's an excellent fit for those forward looking States that are interested in more revenue. There is revenue you know - may not be called taxes in some places, but close enough to make the State Treasuries sit up and take notice.
