HERBST GAMING TAKES OVER FROM MGM PROPERTIES IN PRIMM,NV...
April 12, 2007
BACK TO A FAMILY FOLD IN PRIMM, NEVADA | www.lvrj.com
I'm sorry to have to say that MGM was not the type of company prepared to operate the Primm, Nevada properties. They were rather small and catered to people traveling along the I-15 corridor from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. It was generally considered a pit stop for most travelers with just 40 miles left on their trip to LV. The Herbst family has an inside feel on how to cater to the automobile traveler - they are, after all, noted for their Terrible Herbst gas up and rest stops through out the country. They are also into gaming in other properties in Nevada.
A LAS VEGAS LANDMARK COULD BE ON THE BLOCK

REPORT REVEALS GRIM NEWS FOR BINION'S | www.lvrj.com
Binion's has been a very large part of the face of Las Vegas for more years than you might expect. It seems that the recent buyers of the once famous property have no clue as to what it needs to survive. The downtown area in which Binion's is located is the most specialized business in gaming - it take special know how and a very special group to make this old stand by successful - It would make a very substantial impact on an already slow business area should they pull up and decided to shut the doors.
iT'S JUST WHAT THE HARD ROCK NEEDED - BROUGHT UP TO DATE AND EXPANDED

HARD ROCK PROJECT UNVEILED-NEW OWNERS PLAN MAJOR EXPANSION | www.reviewjournal.com
The thought of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino staying as is, would have needed a miracle to survive in today's market. They, at one time, had a lock on the 30 something clientele. That monopoly no longer exists. They now have an opportunity to make a major impact on the Paradise Road gaming corridor. They still have a good niche in the market but need a make over to keep up with competition.
ONLINE GAMBLING IS NOT IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE AMERICAN GAMBLER

BANNING ONLINE GAMBLING IN THE UNITED STATES | www.ncalg.org
There are millions upon millions of dollars being wagered online. The problem is there is no benefits to our citizens in the way of taxes or any other benefits. The only justification for this type of gambling is that it can be done from your own house, you don't even have to venture out to your local casinos to place bets. It's just the tip of the problems this could create. The hard dollars for the online gambling houses are limited only to how many people feel the urge to play. It's has enormous possibilities if aloud to continue.
HARRAH'S HAS OTHER PLANS IN THE FUTURE FOR THIS PROPERTY
March 8, 2007
BILL'S GAMBLIN' HALL & SALOON OPENS IN LAS VEGAS | www.readybetgo.com
The take over of the Barbary Coast by Harrah's Entertainment was in the works for quite a while. It was a costly trade for them with the Boyd group, the former owners. It does, however, seal the properties from the Venetian to the Barbary Coast in the hands of Harrah's. It completes the 350 plus acres they needed for their up coming mega resort. It remains to be seen seen just what direction the new owners of Harrah's will travel. This mega resort should be their main priority.
LAS VEGAS HAS THAT SPECIAL APPEAL - IT JUST CAN'T BE DUPLICATED

TRIBAL CASINOS NO MATCH FOR LAS VEGAS ALLURE | www.reviewjournal.com
The tribal properties just can't compete with the Las Vegas market. The thought in the minds of Las vegas business people when the Indian gaming originally came to pass was FEAR - the thought of losing potential players from California was hard to conceive. No one has the foresight to see that it would not keep the serious players from coming to LV on a regular basis.

SAHARA SOLD TO CALIFORNIA BUSINESSMAN | www.reviewjournal.com
The purchase of the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas could bring the additional push needed to update the north end of the strip. This is a very vital property and has been in need of either a major overhaul or should be taken down to dirt and start over again. The impact of this end of the strip gaming corridor being upgraded is strategic for the for the area.
LAS VEGAS CASINOS CAN ILL AFFORD UNION DEALERS
March 6, 2007
WYNN DEALERS ACCUSE CHIEF OF LOSING TEMPER | www.reviewjournal.com
Where will this disturbance between Steve Wynn and the dealers at Wynn Las Vegas end up? The real issue here is why Mr. Wynn decided to take away income from his front line people and give it away to mid management. The dealers are like a host for customers. There is more to their job then tossing cards. It's the dealer that keeps players at a particular game - not the supervisors. Why offend them by cutting into their income and passing it on to others. This could have a serious affect on the entire industry as this policy could certainly lead to union affiliation.
A VERY SOLID MOVE FOR STATION CASINOS
February 27, 2007
Station Casinos Accepts Revised $5.4 Billion Offer | online.wsj.com
This is a very important move on the parts of Station Casinos and Colony Capital. It will allow them to make direct moves on new locations without the concern of investor approval. They also have a few properties that are in need of some minor make up in order to keep the hotels up to date with competition. Look for more investment outside of the Nevada market - the Indian gaming has caught their attention and they plan some new partnerships with different tribes especially in California...
A LEGEND PROPERTY MAKES ROOM FOR A NEW MEGA RESORT

THE STARDUST SEES THE LAST ROLL OF THE DICE | news.yahoo.com
The ending of an era in Las Vegas has come to the famous Stardust Hotel and Casino. It is making room for Boyd Groups "Echelon Place". To all concerned is was time to move on. This is a strategic move for the Boyd group who was mired in the old property. The only way to stay in the game was to take the property to a new level. That is just what they are doing.
MORE OF THE SAME NOT ALWAYS BEST FOR THE AREA
February 23, 2007
MAXIM PERMITTED TO MOVE ON / LAS VEGAS STRIP | www.reviewjournal.com
Many of the top investment firms see Las Vegas as a golden opportunity to create new business. Since this is certainly one of the fastest growing resort areas in the world, one would have to feel more of the same should benefit the city and it's residents - not to mention the project owners. Is there a possibility of to many rooms on the strip for the Las Vegas to maintain the level of room count they have created over the years? Will there be a possible drop in the 92% plus average fill capacity of major resorts - not at this writing.........
CLOSING ANOTHER DOWNTOWN PROPERTY WOULD HURT THE AREA
February 21, 2007
WHY BINIONS IS LIKELY TO GO ON THE BLOCK OR CLOSE | www.lasvegassun.com
The closing of the Lady Luck Hotel and Casino did not seem like a big deal at the time as the owners talked about refurbishing and up dating the hotel. The truth of the matter was that they had some financial problems and were unable to start the clean up process. The thought of closing Binions would be a real dilemma or the down town area. Things there are not up to par anyway and Mayor Oscar Goodman is doing all in his power to capture to old glory of the area.

NEW TROPICANA OWNER TRIMMING WORK FORCE | www.reviewjournal.com
I agree that it's important that staff must be kept at a workable level. It certainly is a great factor keeping the bottom line where it should be. It is even more important to keep your hotel in a position to maintain customer levels above what the market demands. In the case of the new owners of the Tropicana, they are taking a very serious move at the needs of their guest in order to trim costs - a very poor business procedure. It will come up to bite them.............
COMPANIES ARE EXPANING HOLDINGS IN MACAU

GAMBLING BEYOND NEVADA | www.reviewjournal.com
This is certainly not a concept that is hard to understand. Expansion where the profit picture is beyond what was expected leads to more of the same. In this case, Wynn Resorts, Venetian (Sands) and MGM are planning new properties. Some are already under way. Makes good business sense - hard to look at this move with a jaded eye. The financial impact for these companies are enormous for the side of the ledger that shows figures in the black...
MGM MIRAGE HAS MADE A STRONG STATEMENT WITH THIS PLAN

PARTNERSHIP PLANS HOUSING FOR EMPLOYEES | www.casinocitytimes.com
MGM MIARAGE has taken the lead in employee relations. They are getting ready to start a planned community for employees just a short thirty minute or less drive from the Las Vegas Strip. This will be a complete housing area with all types of retail to maintain the community, school access and affordable living. What a great innovation for a fast moving, dynamic company.
THE FEDS SAY IT'S TIME TO ALLOW UNIONS TO TALK TO TRIBAL EMPLOYEES
February 15, 2007
TRIBES LOSE LABOR RULING | www.reviewjournal.com
It seems like there is a very fine line between keeping tribal affairs and federal guidelines in perfect order. It's my opinion that the courts made the correct decision in this case. The implications of allowing tribes off the hook where unions are concerned or for that matter any type of employee advancement is outlandish. How can others compete in the employment market with one group having a very real advantage by not allowing unions on their lands. I don't either endorse unions or am a nay sayer - this is a matter to be handled by management with the best interest of their employees in mind.
BUYER'S ATTEMPT CREATIVE FUNDING
February 14, 2007
HARRAH'S ENTERTAINMENT AQUISITION | www.reviewjournal.com
It is not a new idea to try and find creative funding for large projects in the casino industry. Remember that it has not been all that long ago that most of the fancy financing came through or with the backing of majors labor unions. In the case of Harrah's purchase, they are willing to subordinate some of their real estate and casino properties as collateral for cash. It seems that Apollo Management and Texas Pacific will put up just under $3 billion in cash each to make this purchase and finance the remainder of the $17 plus billion buyout figure - keep in mind they will also acquire about $10.5 billion in debt.
STATION CASINOS BUY OUT BID COULD BE IN SOME TROUBLE
January 30, 2007
GROUP DISLIKES STATION BUY OUT BID-OFFER UNDERVALUES COMPANY, INVESTORS SAY | www.reviewjournal.com
CtW Investment Group is trying to place thoughts of an undervalued offer being considered by Station Casinos and Colony Capital. CtW thinks that an offer that is $15.00 per share higher would be in the correct neighborhood. Stockholders always feel they may be getting short changed in a deal of this magnitude, however, they generally get a substantial reward from these buy outs. I do agree that there is a bit of a short fall in this possible sale, but it's not in the numbers that CtW is talking about.
A VERY SERIOUS HAPPENING MAY BE AT HAND
January 24, 2007
WYNN DEALERS TALKING UNION | www.reviewjournal.com
I was very much afraid that the situation at the Wynn Las Vegas would possibly come to unionization of dealers. It was a situation I discussed in an article when this move on the dealers tips transpired. I do not have any serious bad vibes against unions, however, this could place some casinos in a poor financial position should it catch on throughout the local industry.

MAGNITUDE OF CITY CENTER PLAN IS ENOUGH TO LEAVE YOU SPEECHLESS | www.lasvegassun.com
The magnitude of the City Center Project, now under way in Las Vegas, will astound the tourist population. It will also place other main line hotels planning future development to alter plans. This will be the wave of the future for the gaming industry in the Las Vegas Market. We are hearing from the nay sayer's letting off puffs of ridiculous metaphors about how impossible it might be to have this project be successful. Rubbish, or maybe I should have put that entire word in capitals. Not only will it be successful - it will usher in a new wave of enthusiasm for tourists to visit this great city. It will be a boundless resource for years to come.
