Council Member Biography

Abdhish Bhavsar, MD, is a Retina Surgeon, Ophthalmologist and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota. He is the Past Chair of Ophthalmology at Phillips Eye Institute with research interests in macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, endophthalmitis, and retinal oxygen metabolism. Dr. Bhavsar has served as the Principal Investigator of the Verteporfin in macular degeneration trial, the Vitrase Study for clearance of severe vitreous hemorrhage, and several studies for macular degeneration, including the VEGF-trap studies. He was also involved in the NIH/NEI sponsored DRCR.net diabetic macular edema trials, the Posurdex Phase III trial for macular edema due to vein occlusions, and PTK trial. Dr. Bhavsar manages vitreoretinal medical and surgical diseases and has been awarded the American Society of Retina Specialists Senior Honor Award and the AAO Secretariat Award. New Medicare Regulations Adopted To Reduce Certain Hospital Infections And Medical Errors | www.medicalnewstoday.com

The new Medicare regulations are not based in science as there is no proven clear cut medical way to eliminate the incidence of these "so-called" medical errors. It would be a dream to believe that some intervention today can eliminate the occurrence of infections in hospitals or patient falls.  Just as it would be a dream to hold state toopers responsible for eliminating car accidents.

This is the first treatment of exudative Age-related Macular Degeneration to show a substantial percentage of subjects who gained 3 or more lines of visual acuity at one year and even at two years post initial treatment. This is the first treatment of exudative Age-related Macular Degeneration to show an average gain in visual acuity in the entire population of treated subjects at one year and even at two years post initial treatment.
