Dr. Al Barqawi MD, FRCS

Council Member Biography

Al Barqawi, MD, FRCS, is an Associate clinical Professor and Lecturer in the Division of Urology at University of Colorado Health Science Center. Dr. Barqawi also serves as Director of Research in the Section of Urologic Oncology. He has expertise in urologic oncology and general Urology, primarily in prostate disease clinical research, early detection, novel treatment applications, and epidemiology. He also acts as the Principal Investigator for several national research projects. He pioneered 3D imaging of the prostate gland, and focal targeted therapy for prostate cancer. He performed the first focal interstitial laser therapy of the prostate in the US. He also initiated the first phase I study for intraprostatic injection of Botox for the treatment of BPH. He published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and presented at many national and international meetings. He is also elected member of the Editorial Board for several national and international medical journals. (This is me - Update Profile)
