Council Member Biography

Michael Silber, PhD, is Professor of Neurology, Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences, and Chief of Drug Discovery R & D, at the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases, UCSF School of Medicine. He has 25 years of experience as a senior leader in Pharma and Biotech R & D, in all major diseases. Dr. Silber has over 170 research articles, book chapters, abstracts, and presentations. He is a member of the editorial board of six journals and has received many honors including election to Keystone Symposia Scientific Advisory Board, UC Berkeley Engineering Advisory Council, and the University of Washington. Dr. Silber is also on the SAB of 6 Biotech or Life-Sciences IT companies, and is a Sr. Advisor to three Life Science VCs. His other key positions include Sr. VP of R & D at Roche Pharma, VP of R&D at J & J, Dir of Genomic and Proteomic Sciences at Pfizer, Sr. Dir of Pharmacol and Tox at Cetus, Dir at Lederle, & Asst Professor, University of Washington School of Medicine & Pharmacy.
