Council Member Biography

Charles Empson, MD, has been a primary care and emergency medicine physician for over 35 years, achieving status as a Lifetime Member of both the American Academy of Family Practice and the American Medical Association. He also serves as an associate of Epiphany Healthcare Advisors. Dr. Empson retired from his group practice in 2005 to focus his work on the Mercy Health System Emergency Department in Independence, Kansas. He also supervises the city’s emergency medical services (EMS) and mentors physician assistants in nearby communities. Dr. Empson's past roles have included Mercy Hospital Chief of Staff, Director of the Mercy Emergency Room, and President of the Southeast Kansas Medical Society. He volunteers at a city-wide free clinic on a monthly basis and has served on the board of trustees of a local community college. (This is me - Update Profile)
