Council Member Biography

David Zimmerman, PharmD, FASCP, is the President and an Independent Consultant of Doctors of Pharmacy. Dr. Zimmerman formerly served as the Director of Clinical Affairs at EHIM, a pharmacy benefit manager. He has over 30 years of experience, specializing in pharmacy services to long term care facilities such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities, as well as the retail pharmacy industry. Dr. Zimmerman has served on the Speakers Bureau of several drug manufacturers on a variety of specialty and psychiatric drug products. He has also spoken at numerous professional associations and national meetings on topics from management and administration to clinical uses of drugs. Dr. Zimmerman has been and currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Clinical Pharmacy at Wayne State University College of Pharmacy (September 2009), Ferris State University College of Pharmacy and The University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. Dr. Zimmerman is currently licensed as a Pharmacist in Michigan and Arizona. (This is me - Update Profile)

CVS vs. Walgreen's and the latest....

As a consultant and clinical pharmacist with over 30 years experience, I am glad someone.... and in this case... Walgreen's finally woke up to fees that are insulting low and a losing proposition. It has been well established the the "average expense to dispense a prescription" (the pharmacy's actual costs including rent, payroll, overhead, etc) is in the $10 range per prescription. Why would any pharmacy sign a contract with a fee of $1.50 per prescription?
