Dr. George Beatty MD, MPH

Council Member Biography

George Beatty, MD, MPH, is Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), and has been on the faculty since 1998. He served as Director of the UCSF's HIV Clinical Trials Unit at San Francisco General Hospital from 2001 to 2007. Dr. Beatty has 16 years of experience in the management of HIV infection and in particular, management of patients with multi-drug resistant HIV and/or viral hepatitis. He collaborates with the UCSF Transplant Service on solid-organ transplantation in HIV-infection, and on investigations of interactions of antiretrovirals and alcohol and treatments for opiate addiction. He has also served as consultant to the California Department of Corrections, and to HIV treatment programs and governments in developing countries. He has served as PI for a number of clinical trials of HIV and HCV treatment for companies such as Merck, Roche, GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, Tibotec, Vical, Serono, Boehringer-Ingelheim, BMS, and Gilead.
