Council Member Biography

Harlan Amstutz, MD, is the Professor Emeritus of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California at Los Angeles. Dr. Amstutz also serves as the Founding Director of Joint Replacement Institute at Saint Vincents Medical Center. He is recognized worldwide as a pre-eminent orthopaedic surgeon and researcher in the field of joint replacement. Dr. Amstutz has authored countless articles, abstracts, and book chapters. He also holds numerous patents for joint implant designs and is highly sought as a lecturer to audiences worldwide. Dr. Amstutz is the innovator and developer of the Conserve® Hemisurface and Conserve® Plus hip surface arthroplasty utilizing metal-metal bearing technology. He is the recipient of seven national awards for excellence in basic research in hip and knee biomechanics, biomaterials, and innovations in joint replacement. Dr. Amstutz is also the editor of Hip Arthroplasty, a widely acclaimed reference book on the subject of hip replacement and reconstruction. (This is me - Update Profile)
