Hong Jiang, PhD, is a 17 year veteran in the wireless/telecom industry and an expert on LTE, WiMax and China 3G. She is actively working on the strategies and technical specifications pertaining to LTE-Advanced systems and WiMax. Additionally, she has deep understanding of the handset industry in China and its impact of the phone manufacturers around the world. She is also tracking the development of triple play in China's cable TV industry, termed "the convergence of three networks" . Dr. Jiang is an inventor of 13 telecom patents and has held executive positions in Roundbox and Flarion Technologies and Lucent Technology. We analyzed the essentiality of Nortel's 4G patent portfolio that are crucial to deriving premium royalty rates. We have conducted multiple patent searches at several patent databases. We then compare Nortel's IPR position against its peers and the corresponding royalty rates that Nortel’s peers are expecting to charge. We obtained the reasonable royalty rates for Nortel over a lifespan of 15 years for LTE. We then calculate the valuation of Nortel's patents.
