The article exposes a key issue: regionality. Geographically, there are massive differences in the key parameters that drive the viability of renewable resources: wind speed, volume and periodicity; photovoltaic capabilities; access to geothermal and water resources. What's more, these are compounded by the ability (or lack thereof) to transport power form attractive resource locatioins to the grid.
