For some odd reason many, including industry analysts, believe OLED mobile displays consume less power than LCDs. That is generally not correct, but by incorporating smart UI designs OLED can indeed be made to consume less power.

I have owned an iPhone since the very first one was available in June 2007. I have experienced a tremendous amount of improved productivity but most importantly using a phone has become intuitive. The latest iPhone 3.1 software update shows Apple's challenge is to maintain tight control over hardware and software in a more complex and global environment.

Apple's iPhone 2.0 sales will achieve incredible sales due to subsidized prices from mobile operators in the US and Europe. Currently the 16GB model has a retail price of $499; I am expecting a subsidized price of just $349.99. The 8GB model, if continued, will have a $249.99 subsidized price while the top-of-the-line 32GB model will be subsidized at just $449.99.

1. LCD shipment results in November were down slightly month to month due to seasonality, however, year to year growth remains robust.
2. LCD panel shipments for LCD monitor applications declined most, by 7 percent month to month. With new technology developments that allow for easy attachment of multiple LCD monitors, demand may increase despite high penetration.
3. Continued growth for LCD panels from notebook PC and LCD TV applications should bode well for LCD-related companies.
