Mr. John Bechtold

Council Member Biography

John Bechtold is an independent Coal and Energy Consultant with over 40 years of experience in the coal mining and electric utility industries in the eastern United States. He provides consulting services to a wide variety of clients including coal companies, railroads, utilities, industrials, and private individuals requiring expertise in the coal and utility sectors. Formerly, Mr. Bechtold served as a Manager of Fuels at Reliant Energy, Mid-Atlantic Region. He was responsible for managing and procuring approximately 9.5 million tons of bituminous coal per year and has considerable knowledge of utility power plant operations. Mr. Bechtold has considerable experience in managing and technical roles in both state and federal regulatory agencies as well as many years with both surface and underground mining companies. This full and diverse range of experience enables Mr. Bechtold to provide his clients with a well-balanced perspective on issues affecting the coal and energy industries.
