J. Joseph Hewett, MD is a managing partner in Pacific Interventional which operates outpatient vascular access centers and intervntional radiology clinics and staffs hospital Interventional Radiology Departments throughout Orange County and Southern Los Angeles. Dr. Hewett is experienced in the treatment of peripheral vascular disease, aortic aneurysm, uterine fibroid embolization, chemoembolization, varicose vein treatment, carotid stenting, vertebroplasty, treatement of deep venous thrombosis, and spinal injection procedures. He has experience in kyphoplasty, radioembolization of liver tumors, radiofrequency ablation of cancer, implementation of PET/CT, implementation of cardiac CT, and cardiac MRI. Despite large advances in the utility of speech recognition in medicine, the stated benefits are not fully achieved at this time.  The development of this technology promises significant cost savings and improvements in efficiency especially in the radiology department.  The maturation of this technology will be an important symbiosis to the maturation of imaging and other workflow technologies in radiology.  The key to successful use of speech recognition is judicious implementation.
