Adhering closely to plans approved by the company's Board in late 2007, Grifols SA announced it will shortly start construction of a new plasma fractionation plant in Barcelona. This facility will have an annual capacity of 1 million liters, expandable to 2 million liters. Altogether, the company's fractionation capacity in 2014 could reach 6.3 million liters -- not including another 4.2 million liters of capacity it will add with its pending deal to acquire Talecris Biotherapeutics.

A new analysis of the successful Talecris-sponsored crossover trial of GAMUNEX IVIG to treat CIDP revealed that only about half of responders improved at 3 weeks, while the other half didn't respond until week 6 after a second course of IVIG. The investigators proposed that treatment with 2 doses of IVIG every 3 weeks may be required for initial improvement in some patients. They also made a strong case for continued maintenance IVIG therapy to achieve a maximal therapeutic response.
