Low Recurrence for Dupuytren's after XIAFLEX Treatments

Two year followup study of XIAFLEX injections shows an overall recurrence rate of 19%. A comparison to historical controls shows a recurrence rate of 34-39% after surgery, and up to an 85% recurrence rate after needle aponeurotomy. XIAFLEX compares very well.

The efficacy of Xiaflex to not only open up the bent fingers of Dupuytren's, but its ability to diminish recurrence will dramatically decrease surgery rate for Dupuytren's.

This technique may have implications as an alternative to lasers or Thermage treatments. Heating tissues with can cause shrinkage, much like meat does on a griddle. The key is heating deeper tissues but not burning the skin or melting the underlying fat.
