Council Member Biography

Mazen Jamal, MD, MPH, is Chief of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Outpatient Services at the Long Beach VA Medical Center. Dr. Jamal is also Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, Irvine and consults through his own company, MMJ Medical. He has expertise in therapeutic endoscopy including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), ultrasound, capsule endoscopy, polypectomy, endoscopic treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and advanced GI technology. He has knowledge of gene therapy and stem cell research of the gastrointestinal tract. Dr. Jamal conducts clinical trials on the topics of Crohn’s disease, chronic hepatitis, fatty liver, functional dyspepsia, gastrointestinal cancers, gastroparesis, hepatic encephalopathy, irritable bowel syndrome, obesity, peptic ulcers, and ulcerative colitis. He is also associated with TAP, Novartis, AstraZeneca, Axcan, Alizyme, PDLI, Salix, Shire, Takeda, Abbott, Sucampo, Genvec, PDL, J&J, ENZO, Given, and Osiris. (This is me - Update Profile)
