Michael Karagosian is the Founder of MKPE Consulting, a consulting firm for business development in cinema technology. Mr. Karagosian is a 32 year veteran of the cinema industry, with a distinguished career in bringing new technology to the cinema. He led the negotiation of virtual print fee deals in Ireland and the Philippines. He served on the Board of Directors for In-Three, specialists in converting 2-D content to 3-D. He advised the UK Film Council in the launch of the publicly financed 200+ screen Digital Screen Network program, the first effort of its kind. For 8 years, he led the technology efforts of the National Association of Theatre Owners in the US. Earlier in his career, Mr. Karagosian conceived and co-led the CinemAcoustics division of Peavey Electronics, and led the development of cinema and studio products at Dolby Laboratories. His first contribution to the industry was the introduction of stereo surround for the 70mm release of "Apocalypse Now" in 1979. He has chaired numerous committees in the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, most recently appointed co-chair of the High Frame Rate Study Group, an effort initiated to further the artistic intents of directors Peter Jackson and Jim Cameron, among others. • A 3-D renaissance is taking place in the cinema due to the introduction of DLP digital projection in theatres. • 3-D to the home has its challenges: no standards, difficult to produce, only DLP can display 3-D out-of-the-box. • TI's push to use 3-D to increase DLP sales in the home could easily backfire as consumers recognize the hollow promise.
