Dr. Nicolas Schmitt

Council Member Biography

Nicolas is a process and technology expert with over 10 years track record in the fibre optic, semiconductor and datacom markets. In his previous role, Nicolas was the Asia Pacific application team leader for Avago Technologies based in Hong Kong. He was providing technical and technological expertise across Asia on subjects including: semiconductor fabrication, characterization and qualification of fibre optic devices and their implementation in datacom systems. Huawei, H3C, Cisco and 3Com were among his main customers. Previously based in the United Kingdom, Nicolas held positions in product marketing, project management, manufacturing and product development for Agilent Technologies and Hewlett Packard.

Nicolas is currently working on integrated solutions and embedded systems for the solar energy market using his expertise and in-depth knowledge of the semiconductor industry. His work involves development, integration, planning and implementation of custom made solutions. Nicolas is also involved in a number of cleantech projects.

Nicolas holds a degree in Instrumentation from the University of Rouen (France), a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Applied Physics and a Doctorate in Opto-Electronics from Liverpool John Moores University (United Kingdom) for his research on UV induced grating structures on polymer optical fibres using high power lasers.
