Council Member Biography

Patrick Hanly is currently an independent consultant to the retail industry. He is a Non Executive Director of Harvey Nichols, since June 2009. Between March 1987 and May 2009, Mr. Hanly was the Commercial Director of Harvey Nichols responsible for all retail functions in the UK and internationally. He has worked for over three years as a Retail Consultant to the Al Shaya group based in the Middle East trading across the Middle East region, Russia, Eastern Europe, Turkey and Egypt and to a Malaysian company based in Kuala Lumpur. Mr. Hanly's main function there was to bring international brands as franchise deals to the region. At Harvey Nichols, he was also accountable for brand relationships and brand negotiations and worked closely with the merchandise and buying teams in order to formulate policies and drive the business to maintain Harvey Nichols unique position. Mr. Hanly played a key role in the transformation of Harvey Nichols from an underperforming department store to a profitable and highly focused fashion group and was responsible for developing stores in emerging markets and assessing the potential and suitability for Harvey Nichols in countries such as Brazil, Russia, China, India, Asia and the Middle East. He started his retail career with Liberty of London and held various senior positions in buying and merchandising within the Debenhams Group and Edgar Store Group in South Africa.
