Council Member Biography

Richard Amistadi is the Principal of Amistadi Associates, a lead-acid battery market consultancy firm. Mr. Amistadi formed his consultancy firm after having more than 36 years of experience at The Doe Run Company where he was mainly involved in the global sales and marketing of lead metal to the lead-acid battery industry. He is regarded in the industry as the lead-acid battery marketing expert. Mr. Amistadi regularly forecasts future lead-acid battery demand at the Battery Council International (BCI) convention and identifies new opportunities for lead-acid battery growth. At The Doe Run Company, he successfully oversaw sales for both Doe Run's U.S. mining and recycling operations and its Peruvian metals company. Mr. Amistadi also helped in growing the lead-acid battery industry by selling specialty alloys and premium products. He has been Chairman of the Advanced Lead-Acid Battery Consortium (ALABC) since its founding in 1992. In that role, Mr. Amistadi has guided ALABC to become the major global research organization for lead-acid batteries and assured that the research was market driven with special emphasis on using lead-acid batteries in hybrid vehicles, electric vehicles, and for remote area power storage.
